Philippine Fashion Week kicks off at SMX

fashion_week_dress.jpegThis year's Philippine Fashion Week kicked off on 26 May 2009 at the SMX Convention Center. SM Department Store's latest ready-to-wear collection opened the event, the first time in 10 years that the store chain has participated in the fashion show.

SM showcased the best of its offerings from summer wear to evening dress. Whites and cool blues predominated for summer, with a smattering of earth tones in browns and greens.

Hip and trendy outfits in jewel tones, with solid colors layered upon checks, were offered for casual wear. Beiges and neutrals in tailored lines reminiscent of the 1940s were livened up by soft pinks for business and office wear.

One-shoulder sheath dresses in dark colors, with the exception of one the color of flame, were shown for evening wear. Dark greys and whites with occasional touches of pink, tailored lines and bold, clean graphics constituted the finale.

Afterwards, Marlon N. Rivera showed his collection, done mainly in neutrals accented with royal blue. Rivera made use of kimono-styled blouses and batwing sleeves, as well as structured cowl collars; his billowing harem pants, loose tunics and shift dresses were layered over slim skirts or tights, with an abundance of metallic fabrics and accents. His jackets with their wide shawl collars could almost be capes.

Following Rivera, designers Angelo Estera, Jerome Salaya Ang, Joel Escober, Randall Solomon, Raoul Ramirez and Yako Reyes brought out their designs for Premier Collection A.

Senator Jose de Venecia and his wife Gina graced the occasion. Project Runway Philippines host Teresa Herrera was also present. Philippine Fashion Week 2009 runs from May 26 to June 3, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia. The complete schedule includes up-and-coming designers such as Mich Dulce, Aries Lagat, Jaz Cerezo, Joel Bautista, Jontie Martinez, Ceige Cagalawan, Ava Paguyo, Jeffrey Rogador, and Odelon Simpao, as well as pillars of the fashion industry such as Gerry Katigbak and Renee Salud.
