Eugene Domingo, 39 is an award winning actress, comedienne and product endorser. To date, she already has three Best Supporting Actress awards, several commercials, a number of television shows and box office hit movies under her belt.
Eugene started her career as a dramatic actress in the University of the Philippines' Dulaang UP. She was cast in the film “Foster Child” which won her the award for Best Supporting Actress in the Gawad Tanglaw. She appeared in a number of drama anthologies in the ABS-CBN and later, in GMA.
Eugene has been in the business for quite a time. But it cannot be denied that her biggest break was when she played Kimmy/Dora Go Dong Hae in the movie “Kimmy Dora – Kambal sa Kiyeme” under Spring Films in 2009.
The movie Kimmy Dora is a maiden venture of Spring Films put up by four friends with a dream: actor Piolo Pascual, director Joyce Bernal, cinematographer Shayne Sarte, businessman and talent manager Erickson Raymundo. Kimmy Dora is a low-budgeted film which raked millions and gathered praises from various sectors, communities and individuals. The movie raised a P2.4 million gross on the first day, a decent earning for an independently produced movie without television advertising. One movie fan commented “I think it has good promotion. Nakapag-promote nga both sa GMA and ABS. (GMA and ABS both did promotions.)” It was known that despite the limited advertising, Eugene was supported by fellow actors in the industry.
One movie critic said “The moviegoing experience in itself is meant to be shared. It's the type of film that is more enjoyable to watch with the rest of the audience.”
The success of Kimmy Dora opened a lot of opportunities to Eugene including new movies and product endorsements as well. Currently she is co-hosting “Cool Center”, a live comedy talk show TV series airing on GMA Network since March 14, 2009 with Anjo Yllana. Eugene is also expected to star in SRO Cinemaserye: Hot Mama.
Eugene also has two movies to be shown this year, Working Girls from Unitel Productions, GMA Films and Viva Films directed by Joey Reyes and in Dagaw, an upcoming suspense –thriller film of GMA Films starring Richard Gutierrez.
In Working Girls, Eugene will play as Paula, a married woman whose main source of income is selling counterfeit bags using the Multiply marketplace online. She will eventually have an illicit love affair with her delivery man played by Ricky Davao.
Dagaw or “lost” in Cebuano is currently being shelved. It is a story that centers around a group of vacationists on an isolated island in the Visayas Islands, and a doppelganger. Eugene will play the role of Brenda in this movie.
When asked how she is taking all the fame and blessings, Eugene replied “Graciously”. She has indeed come a long way, from a stage-actress to box-office hit queen, but despite all these, Eugene has remained a woman with both feet on the ground, she knows what’s what and is still willing to do supporting roles in the future.
