On December 25, 2009 Two and a Half Man and Spin City actor Charlie Sheen or Carlos Irwin Estévez,45, was arrested on charges of domestic violence, including second-degree assault and menacing against Brooke Mueller, a real estate broker and his wife for two years.

It all started when Mueller made a dramatic call to 911 on Christmas morning leading to the arrest of her husband for domestic abuse charges.

“My husband had me with a knife and I’m scared for my life and he threatened me,” Mueller told the 911 operator. Sounding distraught and traumatized, Muller says that it's a "domestic abuse" incident and “I gotta file this report."

Brooke described the knife as a “switchblade” and says that Sheen “has it in his back pocket.”

She told the operator that her husband was in a back room packing and that she wa in the kitchen. She then went on to say that "he is trying to sneak out the back right now".

The call provides even more fuel to the inferno of controversy surrounding Sheen’s marriage and what really happened on Christmas. Sheen’s reps have tried to downplay the incident and sources said that they asked Mueller to recant and that money had been discussed.

But the 911 call leaves little doubt that the couple’s relationship exploded and in one particularly dramatic moment Mueller, apparently crying, can be heard telling someone in the background, “No, he’s got me scared.”

It was known that Sheen and Mueller were drinking before the incident leading to Sheen being charged with two felonies and one misdemeanour. It was reported that Sheen and Mueller both had sober minds with them when they started boozing.

One concerned fan said, “A knife this time and a gun with Kelly Preston. Dangerous pattern here that needs to be defused with professional help before someone dies.” Preston is Sheen’s fiancée and in 1990, the latter accidentally shoot her in the arm, a minor wound needing two stitches.

Police immediately responded to a 911 call concerning a report of domestic violence and an ambulance was called to the house, but neither Sheen nor the victim – who was not officially named by police – were transported to the hospital. Sheen was later taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanour. Sheen was later released after posting $8,500 bond but was advised to appear in court two months after.

On February 8, 2010, Sheen was formally charged in an Aspen court and on that same hearing Judge James Boyd lifted a protective order preventing Sheen and his wife from communicating. The modification comes after the couple had mutually requested they be allowed contact in order to mend their marriage.

In an interview after the hearing, Galanter said that Mueller "would like the charges to be dismissed and the case to be over...What happens after today is anyone's guess."

The couple, he said, would like to start living together again "right now."

Sheen also announced that he would be take a break from Two and a Half men to voluntary enter a rehabilitation facility and this was considered as a ‘preventive’ action.

On March 15, 2010, Sheen pleads not guilty and has showed very little emotion and said nothing during his brief arraignment in Pitkin County District Court. The plea was entered by Richard Cummins, one of Sheen’s attorneys. A judge scheduled another trial in July 21.

Sheen’s press representatives announced that he was preparing to leave rehab and return to work on the popular sitcom.
