After a decade of being together and six years of being married, KC Montero (Casey Wyatt Miller in real life) and Geneva Cruz have finally called it quits.
It seems that people were only waiting for an official statement because of the persistent rumor that the two are no longer together.
But things seemed different to Montero’s brother Troy and wife Aubrey Miles. “I find that weird that he didn’t say anything. So, I heard from other people that Geneva came out and said something and had an interview or something. I was at their house a week ago. Everything seemed fine… I’m shocked actually,” Troy was quoted saying.
The couple got married on January 5, 2004 in a small ceremony at the Millers’ house in Seattle, Washington State, USA, with only KC’s parents Cody and Cynthia Miller, Geneva’s dad Boyet Cruz, and Geneva’s sisters Aubrey and EJ as witnesses.
In 2006, the couple, together with Heaven, migrated to the United States. Heaven is Cruz’s son from her previous marriage with Paco Arespacochaga.
In April 2007, Cruz went back to the Philippines without her husband and son, flaming speculations that they had split up, but she denied it.
After a year of being away from each other, Cruz appeared in a local showbiz show to debunk the speculations of her break-up and her suicide issues. It all started when a website published an article on October 2008 saying that Cruz attempted suicide with an overdose of Paracetamol and that she was rushed to the hospital by her sister. “First of all, I am against that. I have seen a lot of people who are close to my heart na nagpakamatay sila. I think katangahan talaga yun. Harapin niyo ang problema. (...they committed suicide. I think it’s stupidity. You should face your problems)," she said.
The same website published an article in January 2009 saying that she and Montero were no longer together. It was reported that Geneva had issues with her in-laws regarding the care of her son Heaven who was with them. Relatives of KC Montero also supposedly said that Heaven was no longer their primary concern since Geneva, as a mother, should shoulder the responsibility.
Paco Arespacochaga denied this in a fan’s blog. “Heaven is not in 'hell.' As a matter of fact, it wouldn’t be wise to uproot the boy from where he is because where he is is where he wants to be. And the people taking care of him are his grandparents so what’s the problem?” Arespacochaga commented.
And finally, after several months of vehemently denying the issue, Cruz officially admitted on March 11, 2010 that she and Montero have called it quits.
“We still love each other very much,” Geneva Cruz said, “but then, we have grown apart.” This seemingly confirmed what many had been speculating all along.
In her official statement, Cruz finally admitted that they are no longer together but there was no third party involved, and that they had chosen to go separate paths though they still love each other.
“God knows we tried hard to save our marriage,” said Geneva.
KC Montero left for Texas, USA to watch the Pacquio-Clottey fight held last Saturday, March 13 (Sunday, March 14, Manila Time) and is yet to air his side on the issue.
Despite the negative reactions on the internet: “Hiwalay na pala sina Geneva Cruz at Kc Montero...At least, may mapag-uusapan na sa kanila! (So Geneva Cruz and KC Montero have separated, at least there will be something to talk about regarding them)” – a Twit from an obvious non-fan -- in an interview, Troy Montero is still hopeful that KC and Geneva can save their troubled marriage.
"Well, they've been having their problems. Everyone knows that. But if only they can work things out," Troy said, adding, "Life is short. If you think she's not the one you want to be with, well, you know, live your life. Do your thing."
