A few days before the big announcement on Eat Bulaga, showbiz media had already received the confirmation from Ryan Agoncillo that Judy Ann Santos is indeed in the family way. Nevertheless, the couple was careful enough not to spill the beans before the lab tests came out. It was only last March 12 that the showbiz couple got the result from their OB-Gyne.
The announcement was made on the show by Ryan, with Judy Ann on a phone patch, while showing the ultrasound photo of their baby. The couple, who were married on 28 April 2009, are ecstatic on the latest blessing to their family, especially as Judy Ann had to undergo a series of work-up treatments to become pregnant.Judy Ann is two months pregnant as of press time. She is said to be craving for turnips, panacotta, and macaroni soup. Meanwhile, Ryan feels that he seems to be sharing his wife’s pregnancy symptoms. He narrated how he feels sleepy after sharing food with his wife.
Other stars, including Angel Locsin, Regine Velasquez, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Sunshine Cruz, congratulated the new parents with tweets over social networking site Twitter. Fans are also ecstatic about the news. Perlas Resuelo even tweeted that she almost cried upon hearing Agoncillo’s announcement on television. Happy greetings also poured in on Santos’ Multiply fan site.
Less work for preggy Juday
After getting news of her daughter’s pregnancy, Mrs. Carol Santos strongly advised the busy actress to slow down. The new baby will be her eighth grandchild, but she is as excited as her daughter and son-in-law. "Doble, triple, mas masaya pa siguro ako sa kanila (Twice, thrice as much. I must be happier than them)," Mommy Carol said in an interview on The Buzz. She said that her daughter will still be honoring her present commitments even with the pregnancy.
The actress is currently working on two movie projects: Hating Kapatid for Viva Films and Ikaw ang Pag-ibig for Unitel. Hating Kapatid is a romantic comedy that will star the country’s young superstar with pop princess Sarah Geronimo. Viva’s big boss, Vic del Rosario, has enlisted the services of Wenn Deramas and Mel Mendoza-del Rosario to direct and write the film, respectively. Also included in the cast are Luis Manzano, veteran actress Gina Pareño, and comedian Vice Ganda. The two will play the role of sisters Rica and Cecilia whose love for each other make them willing to sacrifice their own personal happiness.
Meanwhile, she will be co-starring with her husband in Ikaw ang Pag-ibig. The movie, which will be directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, is the actress’ first movie under Unitel Productions and her fourth with her husband. It was rumored way back in July 2009 that she accepted this movie offer without her manager’s consent. It was said that it was Alfie Lorenzo who signed the actress up for Hating Kapatid.
Habang May Buhay, her medical-drama teleserye on ABS-CBN, was just launched on 1 Feb of this year. It took three years before the drama series was finally shown in prime time television. Director Wenn Deramas, who is also directing Santos in Hating Kapatid, has already thought of lessening her work hours by giving her an early cut off time.
The Commission on Election has earlier expressed its desire to tap Judy Ann's star power to promote voters’ education. There is still no news, however, whether the commission’s plan has pushed through.
Ryan extends contract with TV5
Ryan is staying with TV5 for another three years. The tri-network star signed a non-exclusive contract with the network on 8 March 2010 during a press conference at Cravings in Shangri-la Plaza mall in Mandaluyong. Prior to the contract signing, rumors spread that GMA-7 had a tempting offer for him which included hosting for Survivor: Philippines, a role in the Philippine version of the Korean teledrama Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart, and a weekend News and Public Affairs show.
ABS-CBN was said to have done the same, but Ryan amicably settled everything between him and the network by a dinner with Cory Vidanes in their home. He chose TV5 over the two competing giant networks after both demanded that he leave TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy. The agreement with TV5, however, does not restrict him from appearing in other networks. As such, he will still be hosting Eat Bulaga in GMA-7. He is also allowed to appear in ABS-CBN should the network need him to appear with his wife in a project.
Yohan as big sister
Yohanna Louise, the couple’s five-year-old adopted daughter, is equally happy to become a big sister soon. The doting mom and dad made her responsible for sharing the good news with family and friends, who are all very happy for the little tot. In a phone interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Alfie Lorenzo stated how happy he is that Yohan will finally have a playmate.
Yohan finished kindergarten this past school year bearing Santos as her last name. This was due to the delay in the processing of the actress’ adoption papers. The couple can only proceed with Agoncillo’s second adoption of the child after the papers of the first adoption have been processed. Until then, Yohan will carry her mother’s last name.
Whenever asked, Ryan is not enthusiastic about their daughter entering show business. However, they are not closing their doors to offers, such as a TV commercial, especially if it will be beneficial for Yohan.
The second honeymoon
The two initially planned an April 2010 vacation to the United States for their family but later on changed the destination to Europe. They were eyeing a two-week stay in Tuscany, Italy, and another two weeks in Santorini, Greece. However, these plans may not be able to push through just yet. "Mag-iipon na lang siguro muna kami (Maybe we will save money first)," Judy Ann said with a laugh in an interview on The Buzz.
