Madonna still glam at 53

madonnaMadonna disappointed many of her critics by giving out a superb half-time performance at the Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis last February 5, 2012 which attracted 114 million viewers, a record that surpassed the number of viewers of the actual game. Madonna’s stand-out execution featuring a 12-minute medley of some of her greatest hits and latest single wowed the live audience and people watching from their homes.

Prior to the Super Bowl, Madonna’s detractors were saying that the aging pop icon has lost her vitality to captivate a crowd.  Some argued that she is too old and not relevant anymore.  However, the 53-year old pop diva proved them wrong when she took the stage by storm.

It turns out that Madonna still has the looks and move or what today’s generation calls swag.  She is truly the Queen of Pop.

The lavish medley

A throng of Spartan-looking soldiers made a dramatic entrance in the field.   They appeared to be pulling something huge masked with golden leaves. The giant leaves parted to reveal Madonna sitting on a golden throne looking like an Egyptian queen with a touch of Roman gladiator.

Madonna was first seen clad in a full length Givenchy gold sequined cape with a golden Phillip Treacy head dress.  The pop star disrobed to reveal a Givenchy black mini dress with a short sequined cape and studded gladiator-style belt.

The crowd roared as Madonna uttered the distinctive line, “Strike a pose.”  She took the stage and began the medley of some of her top hits.  The pop icon started with the song “Vogue” that segued into another hit song “Music.” The Queen of Pop hasn’t lost her youthful energy as she sang, danced, strutted and cartwheeled together with her dancers. Madonna had a minor slip but she was quick to regain her composure. The digital boards on the stage and the foreground animated the Lucas Oil Stadium and dazzled the audience.

LMFAO's "Party Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It" highlighted the line dance shuffle. Madonna introduced her new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" with a cheerleader team together with younger performers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj.  The production was tainted when M.I.A. flipped her middle finger at the camera, forcing NBC to issue an apology.

A force of marching band drummers and Cee-Lo Green delivered amazing renditions of "Open Your Heart" and "Express Yourself.” Madonna changed into a long shimmering black robe and concluded the performance with the song “Like a Prayer” together with choir singers in black and white gowns. Madonna disappeared into the smoke as the digital panels showed the line “World Peace.”

Rants

Madonna received a share of not-so-good comments. After all, you cannot please everybody.

Prior to the Super Bowl event, Singer Elton John did not bother mincing his words on “Good Morning America”.  Madonna’s rival said that Madonna was going to lip-sync without a doubt.  "Make sure you lip-sync good," he said. "Of course you have to play live, but I don't think you can. In all fairness to everyone who's done it before, I think you may be able to sing live, but it's really hard to play live," Elton said.

British journalist and TV host  tweeted, "Somebody. Stop. Her. My toes are actually curling. If Someone did this on America's Got Talent they'd be laughed (and buzzed) off stage. Truly diabolical."

International Business Times cited The Los Angeles Times: "We saw Madonna looking absolutely silly as a 53-year-old cheerleader with equally noncheerleaders M.I.A. and rapper Nicki Minaj, and, perhaps most improbable of all, Madonna in front of a church choir pretending to be chaste."

Madonna’s new song hits Billboard charts

Madonna’s dynamic performance at the Super Bowl XLVI earned her a touchdown in her career as her latest single “Gimme All Your Luvin (feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj)” made its mark on Billboard charts. “Gimme All Your Luvin” is Madonna’s lead single in her upcoming 12th studio album entitled “MDNA” set for release on March 26, 2012.

According to Billboard.com,“Gimme All Your Luvin” garnered 165,000 downloads sold (up 44%) in the list's tracking week, based on Nielsen SoundScan.  The download record happened within the first week of Madonna’s Super Bowl XLVI performance.

Below is a list of artists based on Billboard.com with the most Top 10 songs in the Hot 100:

1.      Madonna – 38 songs.

2.      The Beatles – 34 songs

3.      Michael Jackson – 28 songs

4.      Stevie Wonder – 28 songs

5.      Mariah Carey – 27 songs

7.      Elton John – 27 songs

8.      Elvis Presley – 25 songs

Madonna takes the lead with The Beatles trailing behind.  It’s almost 30 years since Madonna’s first debut on Billboard charts but the pop diva proves that her fans still strongly support her.  Madonna first reached Billboard’s Top chart on the week of June 16, 1984 when her song “Borderline” catapulted to its No. 10 peak.

Madonna announces her world tour

The pop diva announced on February 7, 2012 that she’s going on a world tour to promote her new album, “MDNA” under the company Live Nation Global Touring.   The announcement came 2 days after Madonna’s Super Bowl XLVI performance.  Madonna is all set to give the world a good taste of her new songs.

There are high expectations for Madonna’s upcoming world tour considering that the singer’s last tour called “Sticky and Sweet” grossed $408 million. It is the highest earnings achieved by a solo artist.

Madonna’s world tour will start off with a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel on May 29, 2012. Madonna is set to perform in twenty six European and Middle Eastern markets (including London, Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul and Berlin) before heading back to the U.S. Madonna is scheduled to perform in North America including Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles. She will head back to Latin America after Thanksgiving. Other U.S. cities covered by the tour are Boston, Atlantic City, Chicago, Washington, Seattle, Las Vegas, Dallas and New Orleans. Madonna’s world tour will conclude in Australia in 2013.  .  This is going to be the singer’s most extensive tour considering the total dates of performance.  In fact, the singer has planned ninety dates globally.
