The Hollywood film production, Bourne Legacy is set to shoot several vital scenes in the Philippines. Lead stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton have set foot in the country for the film shooting.
Based on the report of GMANews Online, Lope “Jun” Juban Jr., the Philippine producer of The Bourne Legacy told reporter Jiggy Manicad that the producers of the film picked Manila as one of the locations because of the hospitality that Filipinos naturally emanate..
"Malaking bagay ito kasi pinamilian tayo eh. It was Ho Chi Minh and Jakarta tapos eto nga ang napili (Manila) because of the friendliness of the Filipinos. Yun ang pinakamalaking bagay. When we were scouting, the (foreign producers) saw that they felt at home with the neighborhood," Juban told GMA News.
Juban said that the Philippine shoot will last from 40 to 45 days. The scenes taken in Manila will constitute 20 to 25 minutes of the whole film.
A Bourne movie without Jason Bourne
Some fans of the Bourne series are puzzled and shocked that the upcoming fourth Bourne movie does not include Jason Bourne, the lead character of the first 3 Bourne films.
How can a Bourne movie not include Bourne?
Actor Matt Damon played the role of Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).
Universal Pictures originally intended The Bourne Ultimatum to be the ending film in the series. However, in October 2008 Universal Studios announced that they were moving ahead with the fourth installment. Director Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon were set for the new movie.
A huge turn of event happened in November 2010 when Director Greengrass announced that he will not return as the director of the fourth film. A month later, Damon said that he was not going to star in another Bourne film without Greengrass. The two reportedly did not support the idea of the movie being forced to accelerate towards a release date even though a script was not yet approved. According to reelempire.com, Universal Studios will continue to carry on the Bourne franchise with or without the presence of Damon and Greengrass.
Damon will not be back for the fourth film to reprise his role as Jason Bourne. The character is not dead but will not be part of the movie. It’s true after all; it’s going to be a Bourne movie without Bourne.
New characters will be introduced in the fourth film, The Bourne Legacy. The new characters will have to face the consequences of Bourne's actions. The lead role in the movie is given to Jeremy Renner while Tony Gilroy takes the director’s chair. Other lead stars in the movie include Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.
The plot of the new movie makes it possible for Jason Bourne to make a comeback in future sequels. No one knows for sure if that will happen. Fans and followers will have to wait and see.
International stars set foot in the Philippines
Actress Rachel Weisz arrived in Manila last January 8, 2012 (Sunday evening) for the shooting of The Bourne Legacy. According to ABSCBNnews.com, the 40-year-old actress arrived in the country together with 2 other companions. Weisz wore a beanie to keep a low profile and avoid being recognized by the local media. When she was spotted, the actress refused to give any statement. Lead actor, Jeremy Renner arrived in the country the day before while the movie’s directors and production crew arrived a week earlier.
It was also reported that actor Daniel Craig, the James Bond actor and husband of Weisz was in the country to see his wife. A source of ABS-CBN said that he saw Craig but the actor declined to have his picture taken with him. The actor apparently did not want other people to know that he was also in the Philippines. Craig is said to have left the country already. The same source also revealed that he saw actors Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton by the poolside of a hotel in Makati.
