Tickets at the ready: highly anticipated holiday movies!

happy-feet2Christmas is the best season of the year for tons of reasons--for the ham, the presents, the sale, and the vacation. But it won’t be complete without the holiday movies. This year we have a lot of exciting upcoming titles!

If there's one thing I'm spending too much on, it's probably the movies. It’s not enough that I rent sometimes, because there are just movies that you should watch in the big screen.

These are my list of must-see films before we say hello to the new year!

Of the movies showing now, only some are actually rated high by Rotten Tomatoes, a website devoted to movies and movie reviews. Ben Stiller's Tower Heist is probably the most worth the penny, since it scored a 69% on the tomatometer. It's about time we get blockbuster from Eddie Murphy aside from Shrek and this movie could be that. Tower Heist is about a group of hotel workers who plot a masterful plan to get back what a Wall Street swindler took from them. With Matthew Broderick, Tea Leoni, Casey Affleck, and Gabourey Sidibe (from Precious) this is almost sure to be fun for everyone.

Support local films

"Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" is still on, proving that Vice Ganda is a box-office star. A report said that according to SM Cinema, the flick earned P200 million in a period of 8 days. There's also "Aswang"--Regal Films' offering with Lovi Poe.

Highly anticipated foreign flicks

Happy Feet 2

Among the highly anticipated movies this holiday season is the next installment of Happy Feet. Elijah Wood is back as the master tap dancer Mumble. Featuring cool songs, a great choreo and a lot of cute fuzziness, not to mention comic geniuses Robin Williams and Hank Azaria, Happy Feet might be what you need to feel the chill. And if that's not enough, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon star as krills.

Hugo

Based on Brian Selznick's novel "The Invention of Hugo Cabret", Hugo is a family adventure in 3D created by no less than Martin Scorsese. It tells the story of an orphan boy who lives a secret life within the walls of a train station.

Arthur Christmas

Here's another 3D family film you can look forward to. Featuring the voices of James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, and Bill Nighy, Arthur Christmas tells the story of Santa's son Arthur, who finds himself on a mission. His challenge: to complete the mission before Christmas morning using sled and reindeer--low-tech compared to Santa's super high-tech operation and tools. Rates 96% on the tomatometer.

Sherlock Holmes

Bromance rules! There is absolutely NO reason why you should miss this. Who doesn’t love the chemistry of Robert Downey Jr., and Jude Law? In this second installment, Holmes and his trustee Watson take on another adventure this time with Noomi Rapace, the actress who played Lisbeth in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Another reason to watch this movie is the villainous Professor James Moriarty.

The Adventures of Tintin

Fans of the classic comic book better queue up for Spielberg's take on the intrepid investigative reporter Tintin as he sets off on a treasure hunt with Captain Haddock. Voices include Jamie Bell (as Tintin), Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise is ageless. Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol is set to hit theaters in December. Cruise reprises the role of Ethan Hunt but this time he's taking on a mission unlike anything he's done before. If you're not so sure about this movie, Simon Pegg is also here.

So there you have it--some of the best films this holiday season. Make sure to mark your calendars so you won't miss any of the good stuff.
