Vice Ganda appeared on Bandila "Ikaw na" last October, 19, 2011 in slim fit jeans, funky white boots, and a black blazer with pointed shoulder pads. He exuded confidence as he answered Boy Abunda’s questions.
The interview showed another side of Vice Ganda. As a comedian, he is great at throwing punch lines but he also has a serious side capable of dealing with life’s issues.
Vice Ganda revealed that as a gay individual, he reached the point where he got tired of being called, “bakla ka!” then laughed at repeatedly.
Abunda asked him when he realized that people’s views are not always fair. Naririnig mo at nararamdaman mo.” He admits that it is a hurtful process to go through.
Vice Ganda said during the interview that he disagrees with negative gay stereotypes such as promiscuous, “duwag” and “mahina” He stressed that he knows some gay individuals who are stronger and braver than straight men.
The unkaboggable actor said that as an individual he can prove that he is capable of doing good things regardless of his sexual nature.
During the show, Abunda bombarded Vice Ganda with many questions and Vice Ganda was able to answer each one with an aura of honesty. He said that it’s a form of discrimination to assume that gay relationships are inferior compared to relationships between straight people.
When asked about his opinion about gays in the military, Vice Ganda said that he believes that homosexuality in the military has existed for quite some time.
Vice Ganda said that he respects the opinions of others. Abunda pointed out that the church says that homosexuals are also children of God but they commit a sin the moment they engage in a sexual act. Vice Ganda emphasized that he would rather follow and believe in his personal relationship with God and not other people.
The comedian said that he currently does not see himself in the world of politics. He admits that there was a time he thought about it because of his Political Science major and the fact that his father was a councilor in their baranggay. He revealed that once he aspired to be the president of the Philippines.
Abunda asked him if he foresees the possibility of the country having a gay president. “Anything is possible.
He encourages closet gays to come out in the open. “Ay lumabas na kayo, ang init diyan,” Vice Ganda said in jest.
Vice Ganda knows that fame can be a temporary thing. He said that the best thing to do is accept this reality. Enjoy and take advantage of what you have while you are on the top. Work hard and save as much as you can so that when the fame bids you farewell, it won’t be too painful because you have savings to depend on. You can use your savings to continue with your life and find other ways to sustain what you have worked hard for.
