The recipients of 59th
Carlos Palanca Awards
were honored on September 1, 2009 at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in
Makati. In addition to the winners for their standard categories of
Best Short Fiction, Short Fiction for Children, Poetry, Essay, and
Screenplay, the awards also welcomed a new category, Poetry for
Children.Professors Reuel Molina Aguila and Eugene Y. Evasco were inducted into the Hall of Fame, a distinction given to individuals who have won five first prizes in the annual Palanca Awards.
The program featured live readings of the winning entries for Poetry Written for Children in English and Tagalog, read by Mica Roi B. Torre and Richelle Ann S. Lim under the direction of Alfred A. Yuson, followed by a presentation of the 3rd place one-act play winner Asunto written by Jose Dennis C. Teodisio and directed by Rosauro "Uro" dela Cruz, with the characters played by Lou Veloso, Soxy Topacio, Robert Seña, Alexander Cortez, and Ricky Davao.
