FHM, Maxim and Rogue in May

rogue.jpgExpect the unexpected when FHM , Maxim and Rogue trace the histories of a masahista who became an author, a child star making a comeback, and a high-profile model who never forgets her roots.

Rogue

Unlike the multitude of Filipina starlets out there, 23-year-old commercial model and Rogue cover girl Georgina Wilson was thrust into the limelight without looking for it. Born into wealth and the extensive Diaz lineage, Georgina found herself automatically connected with the likes of Gloria Diaz , Belle Daza and Rio Diaz-Cojuangco. As the article “Show & Tell” says, “Getting a little nudge towards the sandbox of celebrity is a lot easier when you've got a few family ties that bind.”

Rogue for May 2009 also features 15 icons of Filipino jazz – the guitarists, pianists, saxophonists and vocalists who delved into the smoky world of jazz and brought their own unique tones into the scene. Jazz is the story they tell, and the medium by which they tell it; and they aren't afraid to experiment, invent, and improvise to bring the message through. Just a few of them are “Wildman” Bobby Enriquez , Koyang Avenir, Bob Aves, Skarlet, and Mon David.

FHM

FHM's The Big Read for the month of May takes a look at the world of the 'masahista' through the eyes of ex-masseuse, blogger and author Ella Rose. “Her Secret Service” tells the story of Rose's time working in a massage parlor under the name 'Number 88', and all manner of intimate involvement being a 'spakol' masseuse entails. Ella shared her stories online, on blogspot, once again calling herself Number 88. Her sharp, funny and always thought-provoking writing attracted the attention of A&S Books who later compiled her blog into the 2008 book Diary ni Ella: Confessions ng Isang Masahista. She still maintains an online journal at ellarose.wordpress.com.

Also included in the issue: the bizarre syndromes of stress-related mental disorders, the eccentric water-powered car inventor Daniel Dingel, and an autumn-themed spread with TV sensation Valerie “Bangs” Garcia .

Maxim

Maxim's music issue features Geneva Cruz and her comeback to music after a respite in the United States with husband KC Montero and son Heaven. Cruz first made a name for herself in the music scene as the 12-year-old belter of song group Smokey Mountain , with songs like “Anak ng Pasig” and “Kailan.” Now at age 33, Cruz has gone through the ups and downs of being a young artist in the Philippines, first love, motherhood, and living abroad. Like the tattoo below her belt line says “what doesn't kill me only makes me stronger.”

Following the musical theme of the month, Maxim traces the fortunes of Chicosci , out from the underground and on to fame with just a little bit of fortune. Also available are an exclusive interview with the woman popularly tagged as the “Yoko Ono of the Philippines” Diane Ventura, and a look back at the life and times of rapper Francis Magalona.

In the month of May, music and passion color the past and point to the future, and all the secrets, strivings, dreams and longings in between.
