Joojoo gets more polish before launch, cellphone inventor uses Droid and Jitterbug

The Joojoo's new interfaceTablets are all the rage now, so we start today with news on one of the first full-touchscreen slates announced. The Joojoo tablet, formerly known as the Crunchpad got some much-needed polish before launch. The drab interface previously shown with the prototype has been changed to something more visually pleasing. An icon grid on top of user-changeable wallpaper now occupies the device’s homescreen. The Joojoo runs flash out of the box, and can also play videos from USB drives plugged into the device’s USB port. Inside the sleek-looking device is an Intel Atom N270 paired with an INVIDIA ION GPU. The Joojoo goes on sale on March 25, beating the iPad to the market. It remains to be seen though whether upstart Fusion Garage can take on mighty Apple in the long-term.

To cellphones now, and according to C-Span, Martin Cooper, the inventor of the cellphone, now uses a Motorola Droid as his personal phone. Cooper had previously said that he used an iPhone but has now moved to Moto’s flagship device so he can experience Android more. Cooper also uses a Jitterbug, an easy-to-use phone made especially for senior citizens. A very interesting choice of phones for the man considered as the father of the cellphone.

Still in mobile, the hacking community has just made it much easier to jailbreak iPhones and iPod Touches. The new iDongle can jailbreak and activate any iPhone or Touch running OS 3.1.2 just by plugging it into the dock connector. There are only a dozen of the devices currently being put up for pre-order. Get yours now, or wait until the makers can raise enough money to put it into production.

A gaming update now and there’s good news for those who insist on using the Nintendo Wii as an exercise machine. The Wii Balance board now has a push-up attachment, allowing users to get even more when working out with Nintendo’s console. The push-up handles attaches to the top of the Wii Fit board and is compatible with Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and other fitness titles in the Wii catalog. If that doesn’t make your muscles pop out, I don’t know what will!

Now, let’s talk Tech Support. Consumer Reports says that Apple has the best overall tech support among all major computer makers. That’s probably because of Apple having control over both the hardware and software of their products, allowing them to more easily diagnose their products’ problems. Also according to the report, the highest-ranked PC makers were Dell and Lenovo being number 1 for desktops and laptops respectively. The lowest-ranked was the Acer/Gateway/eMachines group, which was worst in both laptops and desktops.

Finally, researchers from Germany believe they found a possible solution to our bandwidth problems.  They used LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to transmit data from one side of a room to the other by flickering the LEDs millions of times faster than what the human eye can perceive. This allowed them to transfer data at speeds of up to 230 Mbps, equivalent to the speeds currently achieved by 802.11n wireless routers. Of course, light can’t pass through walls so the signal will be lost once the light is blocked. On the plus side, it allows for a more secure connection. There’s still some ways to go before the technology is ready for primetime.
