Dell launches XPS 14z laptop

PC Maker Dell unveiled last February 13 the newest member of its XPS-brand of laptops, the XPS 14z.

Described as “thin and powerful”, the said laptop features a 14-inch display packed in a 13-inch body, made by reducing the width of the border between the screen and the laptop’s lid.  Thus, the laptop offers 10 percent more viewing area than 13.3” laptops.

The XPS 14z weighs at just 4.36 pounds, is less than an inch thin (0.9”) and has a battery life of up to six hours and 42 minutes.

For those who love to eat and drink while working, the laptop’s keyboard has a protective layer underneath the Chiclet keys, making it water and spill resistant.

Meanwhile, beside the slot-loading optical drive is a battery life meter that allows one to view the remaining battery charge of the laptop without turning it on.

Users who have invested with USB 3.0 gadgets and drives would be happy to know that one of its USB slots is at the said version, for faster data transfer.

Unlike the XPS 15z however, which was designed for media-heavy users, the XPS 14z’s WLED display is not at 1080p full HD resolution, but a standard HD at 720p.

The laptop can be powered by either a second-generation Intel Core i5 or a Core i7, depending on the customer’s preference and budget.

According to Chris Papa, Country Manager, Consumer and Small Business for Dell Philippines, “The XPS 14z delivers what professionals want – raw power paired with stunning, sophisticated design that signals, ‘I’ve arrived’”.

He added that the said laptop has been engineered “to help consumers do more in their person al and professional lives.” At the same time, he explained that the XPS 14z advances Dell’s “industry-leading vision for thin and powerful solutions that deliver performance without compromise.”

The laptop is packaged with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium and has the Dell Stage interface, which offers one-click access to media and content such as music, photos, videos and games. Also bundled with the laptop is Nero’s SyncUp which keeps content and personal information synced with other Stage-enabled Dell PCs and mobile devices that are connected together by a home Wi-Fi network.

The XPS 14z follows its bigger brother, the XPS 15z launched last year. It is already available in select retail stores nationwide at a starting price of P65,150 for the i5 Core and P69,590 for the Core i7.
