Nurturing body, mind and spirit at the Nurture Spa Village

IMG13Nestled in the quiet woodlands of Tagaytay is a haven of rest and wellness known as the Nurture Spa Village. As soon as I entered its gates, I immediately felt my stresses disappear as the peaceful serenity of the village surrounded me.

The beautiful green trees, the woody scent and the cool Tagaytay breeze welcomed me to a place of relaxation and nurturing, which actually surprised me since I am more of a beach person and not a big fan of trees, mountains and cold air. In fact, my image of a perfect spa vacation always included the sea, sand and shore. However, the Nurture Spa Village opened my eyes to a new home for my tired and weary soul.

Nurture Spa was established in 2002 by Dr. Mike and Cathy Turvill and was known as one of the pioneers of the Philippine Spa Industry. In 2009, the spa got its own “nurturing” as it underwent a major expansion to prepare itself to not only continue becoming a key player in the country’s spa industry, but to open up its gates to the international market.

With its new and improved facilities, as well as wider range of wellness programs, it was christened as The Nurture Spa Village Tagaytay. Proving its world-class nature, the Nurture Spa Village was named by CNN Go as one of the 28 Most Relaxing Spas in Asia. It also received recognition as one of the Top Seven Spas of the Philippines by the Hong Kong based Asia Spa Magazine.

Adding to the unique feel of the village is its desire to provide not only physical wellness, but to be a center of whole wellness in Body, Mind and Spirit. To meet this goal, the Turvills partnered with culinary, alternative and traditional medical, and meditation and lifestyle experts to give their clients a truly nurturing experience.

Nurturing your body and living healthy do not necessarily mean eating only organic, or as many used to call it, “damo-damo at dahon-dahon” (green leafy vegetables). According to Cathy, they recognize that some guests would still prefer more savory dishes over the more limited vegetarian fare they used to offer. As such, the Nurture Spa Village introduced the Tanglad Bistro in October 2009 with none other than Chef Jasper Versoza of the renowned Josiah’s catering at the helm. A core feature of the Tanglad Bistro’s menu is the tanglad or the lemongrass, known for its distinct scent and calming effect. From Lemongrass Pana Cotta to the Tanglad Seafood Pasta, this humble stalk of grass transforms ordinary dishes to gustatory delights. For those looking for a perfect end to a restful evening in the spa, the Tanglad Bistro offers a wonderfully delicious lychee lemongrass martini.

IMGAny spa experience would not be complete without a relaxing massage. The Nurture Spa Village offers a whole range of massages and body treatments. Keeping attuned to its Philippine roots, treatments offered in the Nurture Spa Village are rooted in ancient Filipino healing traditions. Even the hot stone massage is given a Filipino feel with the signature Nilaib massage which uses steamed hot pouches of traditional Filipino herbs wrapped in banana leaves. Further making the nurture spa massage treatments memorable are the wonderful scents from their signature Amu’in essential oils that surround you.

Another unique offering the spa village are wellness consultations with one of the country’s top alternative medicine doctors, Dr. Sam Dizon. Acupuncture and detox treatments are also offered in the spa. For those seeking conventional medicine, Healthway Medical Clinics consultants also available for executive check-up packages.

To nourish your soul, the spa village offers a wide array of well-being exercise such as yoga and Qi gong.  Add to this is the very restful feel provided in the village. The traditional Ifugao huts and beautiful views seem to emanate positive energy to heal the mind and spirit from the daily tolls of life.

What makes the Nurture Spa Village even more special, in my opinion, is that beyond the world-class services and facilities, Mike and Cathy work hard at keeping the Filipino spirit to the company. From the use of local products for the essential oils to hiring therapists within the local community, their sense of corporate social responsibility make them pillars to look up to in the spa industry.

After talking with them during the grand re-launch of the Nurture Spa Village recently, I was reminded that when you care for your wellness by nurturing your mind, body and soul, you will reap rewards beyond your expectations.
