BPI, OWWA hold financial wellness programs for OFWs

While there are already millions of Filipinos working and living overseas, there are still more Filipinos in the country today who aim to go abroad for the promise of high-paying jobs waiting for them there. Assuming they find their dream employment, they need to learn financial sustainability through financial literacy and related values.

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA), both committed to support overseas Filipinos while they are away from home, have joined together in  an effort to empower Filipino families through a holistic financial literacy and values education program called  the BPInoy Learning Program.

“We are reaching out to Overseas Filipino Workers to help them  and their families  manage the proceeds of their hard work and make these productive,” shares OWWA Administrator May Dimzon.

“We are continuously working to educate and empower overseas Filipinos with our BPInoy Learning Program. The partnership with OWWA is sure to strengthen our advocacy for Filipinos all over the world,” says Teresita B. Tan, BPI EVP and Group Head of Overseas Banking and Channel Services Group.

As part of the BPInoy Learning Program, BPI and OWWA recently hosted a BPInoy Reality Show, a light and fun day of financial wellness orientation for OWWA-NCR members at the Trade Hall of Star Mall EDSA.

One of those who attended the show is Carina, whose sister is an OWWA member and former OFW.  As she herself will be leaving for August for a job in Qatar, she made it a point to come to the Reality Show and open a BPInoy Savings account in preparation for her departure. She shares, “I would like to ensure that my family and I are prepared and equipped with the right knowledge in financial management before I leave for Qatar.”

BPI sustains its BPInoy Learning Program, an initiative to educate Overseas Filipinos on matters beyond banking such as investing, growing a business, and handling long-distance family communications. The Bank also organizes the BPInoy Awards and the Search for Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children in recognition of and support to Overseas Filipinos who are helping prop up the country's economy through their hard work foreign currency contributions.
