Anne Hathaway in a red bustled Vintage Valentino. Anne unquestionably broke the red-on-red rule with her bold yet classic choice for a gown. Her show-stopping look, styled none other than famous celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe, highlighted Anne’s alabaster skin. The pop of strong red lips, a diamond-studded necklace, and a soft up ‘do completed this red-hot look.

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang. Another actress in vixen in red, Sandra Bullock graced the red carpet in a silk faille mermaid gown with double bustier and origami bow at the back number. With a red croc leather clutch at hand, Jimmy Choo’s ‘Vita’ platform heels, and Harry Winston jewels, Sandra turned heads – not just because of her failed marriage with Jesse James whom she gushed profusely in last year’s Oscars – but because of her impeccable taste in couture.

Michelle Williams in Chanel Couture. After recovering from her Golden Globes flop, Michelle returns with a vengeance in her Chanel Spring 2011 Couture silver gown. Her impish pixie locks did not take away from the sleek and shine of her sheer silver gown that hugs her body just right. Nude lips, peach cheeks, and smoked up eyes finished Michelle’s full fashion recovery.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab. Another stunner that rocked the sheer trend is Mila Kunis in her lilac Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture. Mila shed off her second fiddle role in Black Swan and emerged feminine and powerful in her diaphanous lace gown. The lace paneling near the bust and the intricate draping added more romance to her already dramatic ensemble. With her just-kissed lips and dramatic eye, Mila deserves a standing ovation with this lacy Saab creation.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte. It’s almost natural to see Natalie Portman in a dress designed by sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy of the couture line Rodarte. With Rodarte designing most of the tutus from the same movie Natalie is nominated for Best Actress (Black Swan if you have to ask), Natalie’s choice seems to be an homage to the duo.
Natalie’s crowd-pleasing violet chiffon-draped gown was punctuated with swarovski crystals and a complementary selection of accessories: Jimmy Choo shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewelry, and Roger Vivier’s Boite de Nuit Caviar in Rose Gold bag. A side-swept ‘do and rose pink lips made this mommy-to-be look absolutely glowing with her baby bump.

Cate Blancett in Givenchy. Cate’s dichotomous soft and edgy piece would have been a disaster if it had fallen in the wrong hands. But with Cate’s statuesque and regal frame, this soft lilac pleated chiffon Givenchy Couture dress encrusted with tiny pearls around the bodice proved to be the wild card in this year’s red carpet. The surprise crisscross cut-out back and yellow beadings were downplayed with Cate’s minimalist makeup and careless bob.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa. The Oscars is surely an adult-only event that can leave teens and pre-teens dressing too provocatively, completely inappropriate for their age. Hailee Steinfeld broke the curse with a tasteful pink tulle tea-length dress embroidered with crystals. The sheer bodice and full skirt were both youthful yet becoming, making Hailee’s Oscar debut a success.
