The Decent Work Caravan: Participatory Workshop and Media Forum was held on Wednesday, July 16. The discussions focused on the promotion of the "decent work"--the rights at work, employment and social protection and representation of formal, informal and migrant sector workers.
The highlight of the caravan was the Diamond Lecture on July 17 which took place in the CPU auditorium. The discussion focused on the meaning of the trade union movement-its present and future promises for workers and students.
The rest of the program took place in the CPU auditorium. Welcome remarks were given by Mayor Jerry Trenas, the keynote message was given by Undersecretary Baldoz, and the message of support was delivered by Dr. Teodoro Robles.
According to DOLE Assistant Secretary Reydeluz Conferido, the lecture aims to bring to light the meaning of social justice (katarungang panlipunan). He stressed the importance of discussions on the relevance of unions to the youth and workers in a democratic society.
The lecture series-cum-caravan is presented by DOLE in cooperation with Jobstreet.com, Vibal Foundation, and the Philippine Online Chronicles.
