KOMIKON Summer Fiesta 2009 is an offshoot from the annual KOMIKON. It will be held on May 16, 2009 at the UP Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman Campus in Quezon City from 10 am to 8pm. The entrance fee of P50 will get early participants a lot of freebies and loot bags. The "summer fiesta" theme is to give it a distinct Filipino flavor parallel to fiestas held mostly during summer. This year features local comic artists Wilson Tortosa (Wolverine: Prodigal Son) and Manix Abrera (Kiko Machine). The program includes comic making contests, comic book launches and signings and games with the Filipino touch we all grew up with, like sipa, relay games, as well as the very first KOMIKON Idol. The plans for the upcoming KOMIKON this October will be announced, including the opening of nominations for the 2nd KOMIKON Awards. The KOMIKON Summer Fiesta will surely be one HOT convention!
KOMIKON aims to bring together different comic book artists/groups and publishers in a venue where they can present their talents, works and services to the public and, most importantly, to aspiring comic creators. It brings together different groups from different generations of artists for a free exchange of ideas, breaking down of stereotypes, and broadening the scope of comics - international and local, sequential and strips, professional and amateur, published and independent. The event's organizers would like to bring awareness of the current state of the Philippine comics industry.
Komikon Summer Fiesta 2009 is brought to you by the Artists' Den, UP LUNAROCK and Jack TV and is sponsored by Interactive Arts Services (IAS), PSICOM, CreatiVoices, Enchanted Kingdom, Comic Odyssey, CSCentrl.com, TV5, Circuit Magazine, Philstar.com, UNO Magazine, Philippine Online Chronicles, and DREAM 106.7.
