Education Makes a Difference

“Education can make a significant contribution in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals,” Under Secretary Regional Operations Ramon C. Bacani said during his speech at the opening program of the National Schools Press Conference 2010. These goals include reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as AIDS, and developing a global partnership for development.

Lately, there have been reports that the Philippines won’t be able to achieve these goals by 2015. There isn’t much improvement in our country. And now everything seems to be getting worse. Violence is already becoming a trend. It now seems impossible for us to achieve these goals.

Even with all these negative things blocking our way to success, we should not give up hope. We should try and do our best to achieve these goals. Look at all these people suffering, do you think we should just ignore them?

What can we do?

We can be a catalyst for change in our own school. With the use of our school paper we can ensure Filipino families to send their children in elementary school. We can also use the school paper to gain access to more educational resources like buildings, tables, chairs, notebooks etc.

The schools must also retain their students. The schools must strive hard to be the best school so expectations will be met by stakeholders.

With education the other goals can be attained. People are educated and will learn how to earn a living and sustain their source of income thus lessening poverty. The people will be educated on how to take care of our earth and to be aware of the disasters thus lessening climate change. See, education has a link which can help attain the other millennium development goals.

So we need to be a catalyst of change. The government must be aware on how important education is to the lives of the Filipino children. So remember that education makes a difference.# clip_image002_copy_copy_copy_copy
