Education is our tool for human development and also a weapon in minimizing poverty.
The education rate in the Philippines as well as in the whole world is very poor. This is an alarming fact where people especially the presidentiables should observe.
I am glad that Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the leading development institutions worldwide have agreed that education is their second goal. It says that they will achieve universal primary education.
Everybody wants to study. This is a fact ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, because of the consequence of poverty, not all are given a chance to study.
Many children are not studying. Instead, in a very young age they already look for jobs. Some are only at streets begging for money to every people who will pass by. Children are not learning. They are not given a chance to study because of poverty.
Children studying in schools are very lucky I must say. They are provided by books, pens and many more. The bad thing that comes always on my mind is that why these children are like throwing their education? Why are they always absent during classes but we can just see them in internet cafes? Why are these people not giving importance to education? We all don’t know. All I know is that there is no good future waiting for them when they don’t come to realize that education is very important.
We are not yet sure about the candidates running for president. There is Manny Villar, Noynoy Aquino, Eddie Villanueva, Gilbert Teodoro and many more. But of these people, who must be the president? We must also look at their platforms. With these, I suggest that they should put more about education in their platforms.
My point is, we are only months away from election. Let us choose the right candidate. A candidate who has the strength to shoulder the issues about education. A candidate who is not blinded by false mortality and the fame of power when he is seated in the palace.Let’s all be smart on the coming May election. Let us not choose the candidate whose words are only motherhood statements. A candidate who has always promises but all are broken promises.
We all still have a glimmer of hope. If we all work hand-in-hand, then children will have a chance to study and there will be a better future waiting for them. Let’s just hope that all these will be possible.
One message for the candidates running in the highest to the lowest position in the country: People are now suffering because of poverty. Think of it. Education is what Filipinos need.
