Chris Brown and Rihanna electrify Manila Print E-mail

3035813860_dc97b55792.jpg When the likes of Chris Brown and Rihanna come to town, you can't expect anything less than one full-blown, frenzied party.

The two international pop superstars flew into Manila, and around 70,000 fans stormed The Fort Open Field in Taguig last November 16 to witness the sensations in back-to-back concerts, their first in the country, reported gmanews.tv.

Brown, a multi-awarded songwriter at 19, serenaded a screaming, squealing audience with “Run It”, “Kiss, Kiss”, “Yo!”, “There's Never a Right Way to Say Goodbye”, “With You”, “No Air” and “Forever”. He then showcased hip-hop dance prowess as he tried to put a stamp on the evening by paying tribute to Michael Jackson, singing and dancing to classics such as “Billy Jean” and “Thriller”.

The 20-year-old Grammy winner and continuous chart-topper Rihanna, in turn, fired up the audience with her own brand of attitude and sensuality as she “emerged from the center of the stage with her sexy dominatrix outfit complete with fishnet stockings and boots”, related blogs. inquirer.net.

Said manilatimes.net: “If Brown had a thing for the King Michael Jackson, Rihanna obviously tipped a hat off to the Queen, Madonna. Like the enduring pop diva, every swivel of the hip, every turn of the head, every roll of the eye and every flick of the wrist was deliberate and well-choreographed.”

But Rihanna also showed off her much-lauded musical chops. With her song “Disturbia” announcing her entrance, she performed “Pon de Replay”, “Don't Stop the Music”, “Take a Bow”, “Shut up and Drive”, “Good Girl Gone Bad”, “Hate that I Love You” and “Rehab”, among others, before delivering her signature hit “Umbrella”.

Brown then joined her for the finale, the two served up “Cinderella” as “the crowd went wild every time the real-life couple became intimate onstage”, said businessmirror.com.

“Unfortunately, somehow this is the end of our show. I know, right. You have the whole show to scream tonight, you gotta scream on this song,” Rihanna told the audience just before closing out the show, according to pep.ph. “I had so much fun tonight with you guys. You are an awesome audience!”

Her awesome audience featured some of the biggest names in local show business. Stars such as Janno Gibbs, Bing Loyzaga, Vhong Navarro, Paolo Contis, Sam Milby and Patrick Garcia turned up for the three-hour affair, noted pep.ph. But they were only a mere fraction of the 70,000 who braved the crowds, threat of rain and sky-rocketing ticket prices—people shelled out at least P300 and as much as P8000—just to see the celebrated American pair in action.

It might have been worth it. Blog.edarevalo.net spotted miscues and regretted hassles here and there, but concluded that “Rihanna and Chris Brown make Manila's concert of the year.”

Added lushangel: “If I had only known that the concert would be this amazing, I would have bought the platinum (P8000) tickets. I'd say it is the best concert I have ever seen in my entire life! Truly a WOW experience!”
