mamang_drayber.jpg After a hearing on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced a provisional rollback on jeepney, bus and taxi fares effective 15 December 2008, Inquirer.net reports. The rollback might even be implemented on December 8 at the earliest, says ABS-CBN News.
In Metro Manila , the fare for regular buses will be rolled back by Php0.50 for the first five kilometers and cut by Php0.10 for every succeeding kilometer; while airconditioned buses will retain their Php11 fare for the first five kilometers but reduce it by Php0.15 for every succeeding kilometer, says Inquirer.net. Airconditioned and regular provincial buses meanwhile will reduce their fare by Php0.05 per kilometer. Jeepney fares will also be reduced by Php0.50 for the first four kilometers and by Php0.10 for the every succeeding kilometer.

The additional Php10 "tip" on cab fares has also been removed with the approval of the taxi operators, says Inquirer.net. According to GMANews.tv, Alliance of Taxi Operators in Metro Manila (Atomm) president Leonora Naval said that although they would have preferred that taxi fares were left unchanged to give them a chance to recoup their "losses" in the past four years, they did not object to the LTFRB's order as a Christmas present to the riding public. The LTFRB has promised to review the question of the cab fare increase on February 18, 2008.

Meanwhile, jeepney operators and drivers in Cebu have agreed to roll back jeepney fares to Php7, says the Philippine Star. Jeepney operators and drivers in Bacolod have also decided to voluntarily roll back fares to Php7, adds Inquirer.net.

The LTFRB said that the fare rollback will be temporary and would be implemented for only three months, according to Inquirer.net.
