Free Carlos Celdran the uber-subversive (Updated)

Carlos Celdran was released on bail at around 4:00 PM October 1. See photos below

carlos-celdranCarlos Celdran is not your typical rebel. He is more dangerous than Simeon, more vicious than Macario Sakay and more intellectual than Joma Sison.

Carlos does not have a gun. He does not have even a knife nor did a bolo tuck in his waist. He wields a different kind of weapon, more lethal than an M-16 rifle and sharper than any Swiss knife.

Carlos Celdran is your uber-subversive of the most creative kind. He is Carlos, the fox, anonymous no more.

Carlos Celdran is the cyber world’s version of a subversive, the kind that Jose Rizal wrote in his Noli and almost killed in Fili. When everyone already thought that the Supremo already killed these Padre Damasos, Celdran’s action yesterday reminded us of centuries past when friars ruled this land with a cross at one hand, and a vicious whip in another.

Celdran fights only with reason. He appeals to all of us. His actions spark the subversive within us. His fight against present-day clerico-fascists reminds us of those days when Jacintos and Pio Valenzuelas use the printing presses to spark a revolt, or those dark days of the Martial law regime where underground journalists write damning things about the Strongman.

free-carlos-celdranReason is the strongest weapon of the subversive. Words are like bullets, hitting cleric-fascists left and right, and killing ignorance almost instantaneously.

Who would have thought that Rizal would actually metamorphosed in the person of Carlos whose passion is historical relevance? After centuries of absence, Rizal just suddenly appeared before the clerics of our age, reminding them of the disease which almost wiped out Catholicism from the face of this archipelago.

carlos-celdran2The cleric-fascists of old want nothing more than feudalist allegiance. The friars of old poked their fingers at everything, even our most intimate moments. During those feudalist times, friars even sanctified sexual relations with women under their fiefdom.

Now, the friars of the new age want nothing less than interfering into our most intimate moments. They want to dictate how we have sex. They want to tell us how to make and unmake babies.

And the reason is simple, really. The more we reproduce the more souls they reap. These souls are ten pesos each. Imagine, how billions of pesos fill those offering boxes every single week. With 86 million Catholics, a ten peso donation translates into 860 million every single week. Wow.

What is disgusting in all these is the very fact that the Church wants Carlos silenced. In an age of liberality and respect of one’s right to self-expression, the Church acts as if every single soul is a property of religion.

Carlos Celdran should be freed immediately. Yes, he probably violated Article 133 Revised Penal Code but it does not justify incarceration, no. We are a democracy. We are not a clerico-fascist state.

Freeing Carlos Celdran will send a very significant message to everyone who opposes Church policies and that is, this Church, the one allegedly sanctified by Christ, as His true representative on earth, exercises true Christianity. Forgive those who show you the error of your ways, and forget still, their trespasses.

It's semi-feudal I believe.

These are the applicable laws.
Congress should re-write the sections so that future Celdran's or future anarchists can have more liberty to express their opposition to organized religions.

--------------------------------
Section Four. — Crimes against religious worship

Art. 132. Interruption of religious worship. — The penalty of prision correccional in its minimum period shall be imposed upon any public officer or employee who shall prevent or disturb the ceremonies or manifestations of any religion.

If the crime shall have been committed with violence or threats, the penalty shall be prision correccional in its medium and maximum periods.

Art. 133. Offending the religious feelings. — The penalty of arresto mayor in its maximum period to prision correccional in its minimum period shall be imposed upon anyone who, in a place devoted to religious worship or during the celebration of any religious ceremony shall perform acts notoriously offensive to the feelings of the faithful.

it was not a mass, it was an ecumimenical meeting, no worship was going on, so offending worship does not apply.

He was not offending religious feelings, he was telling the bishops to stop meddling in politics. How is that offending religious feelings?

Uber naman talaga ang simbahan, ano -- especially when it threatened Pnoy with ex-communication. Great article on an uber subversive. Great photos, Noemi Dado. You covered the event? journalist ka na talaga.
n_dado 03 October 10, 07:51 AM
I was there as a friend making sure he is released that Friday. Took photos in the process.

Funny how the supposedly celibate people of the church seem to know more about sex and reproduction than most of us, enough to dictate what's right and what's wrong. I mean, it's not like they've had one (sex, I mean) before... or have they? Hmmm....
Juan Dela Cruz 02 October 10, 09:56 PM
They should not had released Carlos Celdran. Instead, they should had included with him in jail the proponents of this website.
Eebanuh 02 October 10, 10:16 PM
Regardless of one's stand on a controversial issue, I find this Celdran theatrics utterly disrespectful and should not therefore be tolerated by any citizen of any faith. This is the antithesis of democracy.
aslie aslanian 03 October 10, 05:59 PM
...and when the priests inject politics into their sermons and try to pass them off as God's word, what would you call that? isn't that disrespect of the citizen and his secular rights?
john 02 October 10, 10:18 PM
most who criticize the church seemingly do so with little more than the knowledge they have garnered from the snippets of info floating about in the press or on the internet. i would urge all who are critical of the church to truly study what the church teaches about the topics which rile you. you will likely be surprised how clear, concise, and compassionate the church is in her teachings.
Really? 03 October 10, 03:34 AM
@Juan Dela Cruz: You're not making any sense *at all* with your English. Mag-Tagalog ka na lang, po.

@John: Oh Bible teachings! Like that in the Old Testament, where you see people being called out by "God" to commit genocide just because "God" told them so?

Or, how about the story of Job, who was a good man who got screwed over by "God" just because "God" wanted to one-up the Devil and prove a point to everyone. Yeah, think about it - that's what happened. You don't have to be a "Biblical exegete" to understand that. It may be a "metaphorical story of faith" for the believer, but to anyone with half a brain of reason out there, it speaks volumes for what your "God" really is - a vengeful, jealous, and in this case, *whimsical* god. I mean, just to prove a point to the DEVIL (LOL!) he goes all out and wrecks havoc in the life of this "faithful" man. What a fun story.

Wow, what a "God" you have there. I wonder what kind of spin you'll be telling me to justify these things. "Read the Bible, do exegesis, do hermeneutics." Wow, so the average believer needs to do all that to really understand the Bible? More smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors, I guess. That's the name of their game.

@Original Post - Well, there's nothing new here really. It's the Roman Catholic Church we're talking about here. They would rather send these "subversive" people to jail, like Carlos here, than send their pederast clergymen to the slammer for their "sins". Awesome times we're living in, awesome times.
aslie aslanian 03 October 10, 05:57 PM
pls let us not confuse the teachings of Christ w the teachings of the church.
Doy Asunsun 04 October 10, 01:14 AM
Waw Ate/Koyah Aslie - ano poh bah kaibahan ng "teachings of Christ" at ng "teachings of the Church"? Endi bah poh ang tinotoro ng Simbahan eh galing poh sa Bibliya - na may Old Testament at New Testament, na mga toro ni Kiristo ren? San poh yung "confuse" na sinasabe moh?

Narciso M. Lim, Jr. 04 October 10, 12:55 PM
Carlos Celdran is right for expressing his own opinion about the Church inteferances with the government officials or a President of a nation perogatives in making legislative matters concerning the welfares of his people.

Carlos Celdran is also in the right expression by single outing the Catholic Church, that the Church should not interfere with the government in promulgation of the Country's law. The Church is not the whole country and She can instructed their members to follow the commandments of their superiors with their own church doctrines in relation to the issue of reproductive bill but they should not convince their members to do the unlawful acts against the present government. It could be deemed un-constitutional acts and could be deemed a revolt or sedition against the legalizedgovernment or State.

Carlos Celdran is wrong by expressing his own opinion in the middle of a "mass" one of the Catholic Sacrament called "Eucharist" and destroying the solemnity of a worship service inside a sacred place. He can express his own opinion against the Church in a peoper place and in a proper time. He should be punished for the wrong he has committed and need to be subjected for a hard disciplanary church policy.
aslie 04 October 10, 02:53 PM
@narciso: it was not a mass, it was an ecumenical meeting.
