Yes, Manny Villar is in my shortlist

mannyvillar4Ok—cast the first stone. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and bury me in a heap (or shall I say a mountain of stones!) Persecute me if you must—but this will not stop me from saying that, “Yes, Manny Villar is in my shortlist.

This must be the feeling of anyone who openly says that Villar is in his or her short list, more so, if this person is openly and staunchly supporting the person who has been called “Money” Villar. I wonder—the person who coined it must not have thought that “Money” can come to Manny Villar’s favor—the country needs a Manny who can rally the people to have “money” to satisfy their basic needs, for their education, for their homes, for their health, etc. And yes, the Pinoy needs someone who can rally the people for more and to regain their dignity as a people.

Saying, “NO, NOyNOy is not in my shortlist” is easier than openly saying “YES, Manny Villar is”.

The supporters of Noynoy are so vocal about it and are proud because they say their candidate is taintless—no implications of corruption (yet there is no history of competence in legislation at least, the very reason what senators are there for), while the silent supporters of Villar hesitate to come out in the open for fear of persecution, with the black propaganda attacking Villar in response to his infomercials faster than they are produced and aired.

But in the end, come election day—the electorate will vote for their candidate of choice. Magkakaalaman na. I will watch out for this.

Why Manny Villar?

The very first time I was in an interview with him, I listened intently to him talk about leadership, experience, managerial skills and entrepreneurial benefits. At that time I was concerned with platforms, hopeful that the current administration will have someone to reckon with—Manny (who a lot of people now call Money Villaroyo) has given me hope, despite some misgivings about his excessive pre-election spending.

On the personal side

What warmed me during that time was his children’s all out support for him. They came at different times, from different locations I suppose, but that early in the morning, they were there to support their father. Who were we, unknowns, less than 10 bloggers, for the Villar family to come in full force? Who were we for Camille to make a show of affection to her father? Who were we, for Mark and Paolo, his two sons to come, be part of the morning coffee session and respond to our questions about his father? I am a family person, and it warms my heart each time I see family members treat and respect each other well. Oh well, his wife Cynthia did not show up. She didn’t also come on the 2nd interview I had participated in, this time, a larger group.

Also, how well does the person treat other people? I guess, even if you say that Villar was just trying to make up an act, at least he tried. But the way I saw it, he was not acting. How he treated us bloggers at that time was not an act. IF how the Villars behaved were all for SHOW—who were we to deserve such? At that time, and up to this moment, I still see their sincerity. Fool, others of you could call me, but that was and is how I saw and see it.

I could even say I was flattered when on the 2nd meeting Villar identified me as a mother of 7. He said he would always remember me as a “mother of 7”. How during the 3rd time he saw me outside the UP Theater he could still recognize me, and wave back at me, short of a whisper say, ah yes, the mother of 7. How in the 2nd and 3rd meetings his children Camille and Mark would call me, “Tita”, and either make beso beso or shake hands and have small talk. The 3rd time I saw these kids, I was not with the Blogwatch group. I was me, wondering the halls of that function room in AIM looking for my Blogwatch friends.

I am sure Villar did not dictate this on his children. They just grew up well. They are also their own personas.  And this is very important to me. How can one person take care of the welfare of 90 million people if he himself were not a good family man? Villar mentioned that there was no Christmas in their whole life as family that they were not together and that they spend their weekends together.

Oh by the way, Manny VIllar had his usual staff with him. They were there to mingle with us bloggers, both on my 1st and 2nd meet with them. But he was in control—meaning, his staff were not there to direct, to feed information, to influence, to mentor, to choreograph or to talk about him as if he were a little boy. His staff were there to do their work of assisting him in their own capacities and individual tasks, nice gals and guys—talking of their boss with high esteem. Villar was never in a hurry, as he took the time talking with us, free flowing unscripted talk, no holds barred—he knew by heart what he had to talk about, no memorized speeches (I remember what I always hear on radio—“Kailangan bang i-memorize yan?”

On the bigger side

On the bigger side, I have taken time to read and use my brain of about 2.5 pounds (yes, the brain is about 2% of one’s body weight) in discerning the qualifications of Manny Villar, his platform of government, the accusations hurled against him and his answers to these accusations that many people do not even care to know about. I have contributed my share here in Undecided on Manny Villar? hoping that others follow suit and give the man a chance. All the issues have been summarized in this post.

My stance was confirmed when I listened to Pia Cayetano talk of Villar in high esteem as a person, a family man, a businessman and as a legislator in one of the Blogwatch meet ups.

On another side, it just keeps me wondering, despite all these issues—has there even been a case filed in court on the different issues that have been brought up against Villar? I have not heard of any. Even if there were one or two, the court has ruled on his favor, that there was nothing illegal. Even the Senate cleared him of the C5 controversy.

By the way, I took time out to join Blogwatch interview the 7 (out of 9) presidentiables.

Perceptions

It’s all about perceptions now, or maybe the case of a horse pulling a carriage. It has its eyes covered by its master so that it would look only toward one direction. Are many Filipinos now similar to these horses—with no choice but to look only one way? Are many Filipinos taking the easy way out believing in black propaganda without discerning, without using the wisdom that they have been gifted?

The problem with us Filipinos is that when we have complaints, we just complain. When we have rants, we just rant. We love to talk and talk and talk. But where is the solid action? We say that this politician is this and that, but it all ends there. Some people who have the means would not even dare come out in the open and write or talk in support of what they want to advocate.

I have heard a lot of people complain, rant and rave. Why vote for a plunderer and ex-convict? He will only plunder dry the coffers of the country. Why vote for La Gloria’s candidate? He will only bring her back to power. Why vote for a rich kid? He won’t even know how to distribute wealth and govern. Why vote for a young man? Idealism is different from reality. Why vote for a dictator? We will only go back to the Marcos days. Why vote for a religious leader? He might bring more suffering to the masses. And yes, why vote for an unpopular candidate who will not even stand a chance? Using the process of elimination, we are left with none. There is no perfect candidate. But we have to vote. We have to vote not for the most popular candidate, not for the lesser evil but for the person who we feel will bring us out of a seemingly hopeless state. We have 9 candidates for president. We may not even have a popular president, since we are more divided this time. Choose ONE—your one sacred vote.

Some people, if they ever believe in the man that Manny Villar is, could not say so. Afraid perhaps of the persecution coming their way, of being criticized, impugned or labeled as a Villar man or woman, as against the easier way of siding with the “clean” and the “uncorrupt”.

Have we truly become subservient as to how other countries perceive us to be? Or is the formula working of  “keeping the people poor” so that they would not and could not complain? And be willing to accept scraps, to accept loose change, to be entertained, and live on a day to day basis?

We have never learned. When can we love ourselves and get what we deserve as a citizen of our country? Yes, only when we are able to love ourselves will one be able to love others and love our country.

Go to the court of law—not in the court of public opinion.

With the elections 24 days away, we are to expect more and more criticisms and allegations against Villar. In the news, the group of Sanlakas, the party list says it will file a plunder case against Villar on allegations of land grabbing, using Villar's former lawyer Restituto Mendoza as one of its witnesses. Mendoza is the same person who filled a case of illegal dismissal against Villar, whose lawyers, in turn, filed a disbarment case against Mendoza, including criminal charges--for blackmail, slander and extortion.

On the other hand, Erap is out to discredit Villar about alleged irregular transactions involving the shares of his holding company Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc. Villar’s camp calls Erap’s and Enrile’s claims as lies and challenged them to produce evidence that Villar has manipulated the stock market. The public offering of the stocks in question according to them was in compliance with the requirements of the Securities Regulation Code and the rules of the Philippine Stock Exchange.

There will be more of these mudslinging and black propaganda, dirtier and murkier in the coming days till the end of the campaign period, playing on people’s emotions. Time is running short for people who are desperate such that they pursue the court of public opinion rather than the court of law.

Final say

I am giving the man a chance, and with this, I say YES, Manny Villar is in my shortlist. Ok—Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

dudung 23 April 10, 05:49 PM
^I super duper agree ser Mon.

Again, this article reeks of propaganda.

Save our country from Villaroyo, please.
kups 26 April 10, 01:21 PM
So if the article is pro-Noynoy, it's not propaganda?

Noy-noy has a great fortune also. If his shares in Luisita are valued, even if 1.2% only, he's a multi-millionaire in the hundreds. He will not let go of Luisita.

Save us from Aquinorroyo!
dudung 23 April 10, 05:52 PM
And I hope Villar lackeys can look straight in the eye of Atty. Mendoza and tell him all those things. Kaya nyo ba? Si Villar nga, di makaharap sa Senado, nagprivilege speech pa, di naman sinagot point by point ang mga charges laban sa kanya, nagwalk-out pa.

Villaroyo.
kups 26 April 10, 01:29 PM

Dear Author,

These are my sentiments.. exactly... from the beginning my vote was for Manny.... each time his opponent tries to bring him down, my loyalty to Manny just got stronger.. it's the fools who are creating so much noise.. becoz that's all they have to offer... this is an exciting election season, but only because I believe that the silent majority of our country are not fools..

"When the competition talks s*** about you, that's when you know you are better than the competition."

christian 26 April 10, 11:38 AM
I agree also
Juliet623 26 April 10, 12:52 PM
I totally agree with you. These are the same sentiments that I have about MBV. I'm surrounded by people who are very against MBV. It is really hard to be surrounded with people like that. But I will not stand the mudslinging that they are doing to this good man. Nobody could put a good man down.
beth villar lopez 26 April 10, 01:13 PM
thanks for such a great comment....hope we win on this coming election!!!!
dine 02 May 10, 10:13 AM
Manny Villar is the most qualified among the presidential candidates. He is a good family man, leader and businessman. We need a leader who is successful in his family and career life. He is a living inspiration to struggling filipino that through sipag at tiyaga we can improve our lives.
David 26 April 10, 11:04 AM
I agree.....
christian s,. rabe 26 April 10, 11:12 AM
i agree with that
mad hatter 26 April 10, 04:34 PM
@christian,

"i agree with that" without having to say what he agrees upon, spam ata ito eh....
Vic 26 April 10, 11:15 AM
These people (Noynoy Fans) are being blinded by Ninoy and Cory. . . What is the reason of voting a Noynoy? Did he contributed well in the congress and senate? what did he do there?

What if you dont consider Ninoy and Cory as Noynoys parents. . .Treat him as a politician who struggles for his job, would he be there at his current position? ofcourse NOT. In this case you can compare them to JC delos Reyes and perlas who within the damn surveys are falling behind.

Noynoy will just be another puppet (like Cory) being dictated by some other big names in politics.
Sunshine Mendoza 30 April 10, 01:34 AM
I'm for Villar,too!...it's not yet time for Noynoy...kung hindi namatay c Cory i'm sure he won't run for president...baka nga kaalyansa pa sya ni Villar ngaun eh.
Wondielyn Macua 26 April 10, 11:54 AM
I'm for Manny Villar, too!
Rafael 26 April 10, 12:07 PM
Please please please anyone but not Villar. He's just a candidate who gained supporters because of his commercials. We need strong leaders not businessmen.
Juliet623 26 April 10, 12:48 PM
I beg to disagree with you. Most of his supporters are very wise in making research about his accomplishments and even issues hurled onto him.

Haven't you noticed? Not a single case was filed against him. Like with the C5 Issue, if there was a strong case against him it should have been filed in the office of the obudsman. But since all the witnesses presented in the Senate cleared his name it simply shows that there was no anomally. And since C5 Ext is a Government road project this is included in the budget. All budgets are reviewed by both House of Representatives and Senate. If these people voted to pass the budget all of them are also liable or responsible in ensuring that huge budgets like these are reviewed thoroughly. There was also ruling clearing Senator Manny's name that there was no conflict of interest.

What's astonishing is that many people are attesting to his kindness, generosity and sincerity in helping out less fortunate people. Less fortunate doesn't only cover the poor but also those who are oppressed OFWs, soldiers and jobless. Try to search what this man has accomplished and you will be shocked that he has accomplished a lot in helping out the poor.
MJ 26 April 10, 05:32 PM
to Juliet623:
nice one, true.. Villars supporters are wise and arent just going with the flow.. the thinking is above average :-)
anthony 26 April 10, 09:46 PM
i agree. i researched on every one of the candidates be it on personal aspects, to business,to accomplishments and gone as far as trying to link with what to say to trying to figure out motives. and villar always came out on top. no matter what story they push towards him, he always stood firm and never went back or even took back on what he said his side of the story was, and more importantly, his stories were true (took into consideration ALL ...and i mean all.. of what was thrown at him and research on that and you'll see)

bottom line is they know that villar is the top dog to beat. and to level with someone,u have to do one of the two: rise up, or make him descend. clearly, noynoy cant level with him if he plays "fight with credentials" or any other for that matter.so their
only option? try to make him go down of course.

villar is my cadidate...and im not taking that back
Rey 27 April 10, 12:27 PM
You realize that you can only see what you look for.....Villar is not a good man. Well perhaps to you but to some of us that has walk long enough, we can see the differences in what is good and bad. Good luck to you!
anthony 27 April 10, 01:16 PM
hmmm, what you said reminded me that once i was a bit curious where the greater public base their mentalitaty on what is good and bad is... i mean they supported erap, making a mistake, they supported arroyo because she was against erap, making yet another mistake.. now based on the surveys (the greater public i mean) they are supporting noy because he revolves his campaign on "i'll fight corruption"....im not really sure if the country will improve if they keep the stereotype mentality.

THE PHILIPPINES CANNOT KEEP ON VOTING LEADERS WHO THEY 'THINK' MAY BE GOOD THEN GO ON AN ATTEMPT TO REMOVE HIM/HER FROM POWER WHEN THEY SEE THEY DISAPPOINT.

the Philippines need a leader who can deliver.
Rosa 30 April 10, 02:32 AM
It's about time magkaruon tayo ng dignidad at umasenso. Why not give this man a chance toprove what he can do kapag nasira sya eh di wag ng umulit sa susunod, fair enough di ba?
michael sta maria 04 May 10, 05:32 AM
u r such an idiot juliet...the reason y nobody filed any cases on his doings is bcoz he paid each and every part of it just to hide any illegal sh**s that he's doing..open up ur mind girl...y dont u try to go to bulacan and ask those people who cant do anything on the lands that villar bought which serves as their mini farms???and the issues of low cost housings??? for heaven's sake..think about it, is this the kind of person u want to lead our country???self-interest drives all people most especially when it comes to money,...and villar did a splendid job on it...two thumbs up for the multi millionaire villar... and what..in the next few years Phillipines wud become Republic of Manny Villar??? tse
totsie 26 April 10, 12:57 PM
businessmen can be good leaders. Noynoy is not a businessman nor a good leader
lucrecia 26 April 10, 06:46 PM
LMAO
His ads say it all:
"Hindi ako magnanakaw."
"Lalaban tayo."
"Kayo ang aking lakas."

Where the heck is his plan for our poor country?! I bet he's not even aware of what kind of situation RP is in right now. Laban lang siya nang laban. So ano? What a leadership. Neknek niya.

Inuuto lang tayo ng mokong na yun. I just so hope and pray that our fellow countrymen would see that.
michael sta maria 04 May 10, 05:41 AM

mad hatter 26 April 10, 12:43 PM
yeah right... when legitimate complaints are filed against you all you have to do is say "they are all black propaganda" without necessarily quantifying such statements...

Go to the court of law—not in the court of public opinion.

tell that first to money villaroyo, that's what he said when investigated by the senate, the people will judge me...

P.S.
Money Villaroyo is a middle class, albeit in the lower middle class stratum... he was never dirt poor as it was presented in his numerous ads.

and yes, this article reeks with pro Villaroyo propaganda... no worth reading
alice 26 April 10, 01:27 PM
Exactly, black propaganda.

Villar's family WAS poor, his mother was a market vendor, his father was a goverment employee and they lived in cramped conditions in tondo.

They didn't STAY poor of course, umangat di yung buhay nila kahit papano.

This issue is as irrelevant as noynoys parentage, pareho nilang gingamit yung background nila for campaign.

I've been a fan of villar ever since he was elected senator. Nothing you can say sway my support. GO Manny!
m0rinski 26 April 10, 05:23 PM
i never even imagine myself liking noynoy, or the aquino/cojuangco family for that matter. i think they are useless..they milk what they can from their farmers in hacienda luisita, and not even bothering to compensate them with what they deserve--a land to farm on their own.

and please, madhatter, if you care to say bad things about a person, at least disclose what he had done, and NOT to whom he is associated with. you people keep on pressing the matter that Villar is arroyo's puppet, and its just a shame that it could never bring him down. just simple useless paninira.

and who cares if its true that he is not poor and just middle class? personally, i will accept that instead of someone who reeks and breathes the elite life. noynoy never experienced what is like to live in "true" philippines, so he can never address the "true" problems of this country.

it is never enough that your parents took part in our history, actually, it is not enough. i am not a believer of their dynasty, and never will.
Dondon Quijote 26 April 10, 05:38 PM

Sorry
mau 26 April 10, 05:45 PM
lahat tayo may opinyon, mr quijote, pero sna kng mgssalita ka, sana wag mo ng sabihin yung una mong sentence. blog to, merong mgccomment. so mali ung snasabi mong kami kami yung ngpapaliwanagan e.
Mimang 26 April 10, 05:55 PM
What are you talking about??

They're all putting him down but nothing can put a GOOD MAN down!
Allan Poe 30 April 10, 10:22 PM
lucrecia 26 April 10, 07:07 PM
haha too true

Noynoy pa rin was born a rich kid - oblivious to the problems of the majority.

Middle class nga ang pinaka kawawa eh. Ang mga mayayaman, mayaman na - kinakain pa nila ang yaman ng masa, and their taxes can be easily manipulated. The poor, on the other hand, pay no taxes at all. So nasandwich ang middleclass. Wala kayong karapatang sabihin na mas ayos si Noynoy kay Villar on this context.

And I cannot bear to see another Cojuangco in the most powerful position of our government. Manipulado si Cory, at kahit man mabait siya, incompetent pa rin, so walang nangyari mabuti sa regimen niya, lumala pa. She was surrounded by balimbings like Ramos and Danding, who used her to their favor. Ganoon din ang mangyayari kay Noynoy. At kapag nagpatuloy pa itong kahibangan na ito na pinapakita ng ating mga kababayan, we may just get sucked into a black hole, and vanish like we never were.
carlo 26 April 10, 09:19 PM
1. i thought this is not worth reading to you? (you omments in page1),

2. and you also claim having stated that your not pro noy-noy?(couldn't find it in any of your posts)

my, you're just showing your true color and instead of focusing on the issues, have attacked every personality who simply aired their honest opinions.

bottom line, this is not a forum where you get to convince people of your views but simply reason with conviction and respect towards others.

i do not hate you as a person but honestly i pitty your uncalled for comments to the point of becoming so annoying.
