Edu's Papaya

edu-manzano-interviewA few weeks ago we had a blogger session with LAKAS-KAMPI Vice Presidential candidate Edu Manzano. The event was held at his residence in San Juan. Out of the dozens of political blogger events that I've attended, this was one of the most surprising and interesting sessions ever.

The Papaya
The problem with Edu is that people fail to see beyond his show business facade. That's to be expected because Edu has endorsed products, starred in movies, and hosted game shows since even before I was born. Instead of his celebrity status being an advantage, it's actually becoming a major hinderance. People know Edu for three things: papaya, weakest link, and that he used to be with Vilma Santos.

What's inside the Papaya
After talking to Edu for several hours, I can honestly say that he's qualified to run for VP. Note that I'm not saying that ill vote for him. I'm just saying that if ever he does win, he will be able to do the job.

I asked him: the top two VP candidates have been in the Senate for more than a decade. What makes you more qualified than them?

Without any hesitation Edu says that the VP is an executive position, not legislative. Sitting down, debating, and writing for more than a decade can't be the sole criteria for becoming a good VP. Edu then stressed to us his accomplishments and track record outside of show business.

He's been the Vice-Mayor of Makati and chaired the Optical Media Board. He has also been very active in the campaign against child pornography.  Edu also shared to us that he used to be part of the army as a missile engineer.

Professional background? Check.
Educational background? Check.
Executive experience? Check.

Papaya no more
After talking to this guy for a couple of hours and doing some further research, I can honestly say that he's qualified for the position. I'm not saying that I'm voting for him but he's definitely no longer just a papaya. This guy loves the country and he wants to serve. Hopefully even after the 2010 elections he will still follow that calling.

Wrong timing si Manzano If he wants to serve the country then cool, but come on VP right away that's impossible at the moment considering who he is running against,

Being a vice mayor, OMB chairmain, won't be good enough to the second commander in chief.

Compare Manzano's credentials to Roxas, Legarda, Binay, Bayani. Enough said...
