Gibo on mudslinging

gilberto-teodoroI thought of including Gibo in my shortlist of presidentiables, but I have  reservations too, you know =).

In an exclusive meeting between him and Blogwatch bloggers organized by Vibal Foundation and Philippine Online Chronicles at Manila Peninsula Hotel, although I came in late because of other commitments, I got to ask the last question.

I asked Mr. Teodoro how he intends to overcome the seeming liability of being affiliated with the present administration, and should he win, how he intends to convince doubting Thomases that there had been a credible election in order to unite the nation?

Mr. Teodoro replied that his campaign strategy is to discuss issues and platforms, and to refrain from taking part in political mudslinging. In this way, he hopes to convince the electorate that he is not a "trapo" although he is the administration standard bearer. Likewise, he believed that this will enable him to extend an olive leaf after the battle has been won.

My encounter with Gibo, though brief, left an impression of a smart and confident presidentiable who can articulately answer issues head-on. In addition to that, he has a charming and equally intelligent and well-informed wife. If my reading of him is correct, he would like to impress on people that he is his own man, and therefore should not be judged by his affiliations. However, it remains to be seen how he intends to handle GMA after she steps down from the presidency.

I hope the second meeting with him will push through so that I can hear straight from the horse's mouth his stand on various issues affecting the nation.

Funny, taking a look at his facebook fanpage you'd never guess he's not into mudslinging. I guess that's all talk.

moneyv, i hope you are aware how easy it is to make dummy accounts in facebook? as much as the real Gibo fans and Gibo himself would like to keep his campaign positive, it's impossible to always have control over what people may write.

listen to the man talk in the fora he's invited to. take note of the prevailing attitude when his supporters get together.

here is one man who is keen on making us intelligent, objective voters. why not give him the benefit of the doubt? if you have nothing helpful to say about him, leave him and let him be.

Surely you're not implying only dummy accounts are mudslinging on his fanpage. I can screencap a hundred different posts from active members of that page to show you. I hope you are aware that that is a fruitless avenue to try in making an excuse for that kind of activity.

How is he keen on making you intelligent and objective? Did he put up a school all of a sudden?

moneyv, yes i'd agree that some members there are posting some negative stuffs but that's just because there are accounts created by the other camps that comes in to post negative things about Gibo. I'd also say that's expected, normal reactions, for supporters - mild na nga sila compared 'dun sa kabila (oopps, honest lang po). It's amazing to see some people who are paid to create an account para siraan lang si Gibo - nagfloflood pa yan ng posts (di ka kaya mairita kung member ka dun?)
Anyways, I think what Gibo is saying here is that you'll never hear from his camp (him & his staff) any negative allegations whatsoever (kahit parinig) about the other candidates. And I think so far, he has been true to his principle of positive campaigning. This gentlemanly character is actually something that separates him from the others.
