World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight world champion Manny Pacquiao practically went unscathed in his title defense against challenger Joshua Clottey, beating the Ghanaian via unanimous decision today in front of a jampacked Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The title fight, dubbed as “The Event,” went totally lopsided with Pacquiao throwing flurries of combinations mainly aimed towards Clottey’s body. Clottey, on the other hand, played exceptional defense throughout the fight but failed to land any clean blows on Pacquiao.
One judge scored all rounds in favor of Pacquiao while two others scored it at 119-109, as the seven-time world champion emerged victorious, but failed to knock down Clottey.
The last time Pacquiao fought a known defense specialist was three years ago -- his match against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, which ended in a split decision.
Pacquiao was supposed to fight former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Jr. but the fight was canceled last January.
