For the Philippine contingent, Day 8 was probably the longest in their sporting lives. Out of the 11 medals won in the day, the entire team wound up with no gold medals in the continuation of the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia on Friday.
Inititally, it was believed that the Bridge team of Fracnisco Alquiros, Gemma Mariano, George Soo, and Mylene Encontro won the gold medal based on the running audit on the running medal audit on the SEA Games website.
However, the team was awarded with the silver medal as the Thailand card sharks snatched the gold in a surprising turn of events.
In another silver medal finish, the men's bowling team composed of Engelberto Rivera, Frederick Ong, Giancarlo Mansilungan, Jeremy Posadas, Raoul Miranda, and Rogelio Enriquez Jr. were edged by the Malaysian quintet by seven points on average, 208 to 201.10, in the team of five tournament.
Finally, the men's soft tennis team settled for the third and final silver medal of the day when they fell short in their final team tie against eventual champion and hosts Indonesia. Their female counterparts had to settle for a shared bronze medal finish with Laos, following two consecutive dropped ties against silver medalists Thailand and eventual champions Indonesia.
All in all, the Philippines completed the day with 11 medals. Their complete medal haul has been hiked to 106, with 19 golds, 36 silvers, and 50 bronze medals in tow. Host country Indonesia continues to reign atop the leader board with 124 gold medals, 92 silver medals, and 84 bronze medals for a total of exactly 300 medals overall.
