$25M for rematch with Pacquiao – Marquez camp

A rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012? That will only happen if the camp of Marquez is guaranteed a US$25-million purse.

In a Boxingscene.com report, Marquez’s boxing trainer Nacho Beristain said Top Rank and HBO Sports would have to place a sum of “$25 million on the table” to make them accept a fourth fight against reigning WBO welterweight champion Pacquiao.

"That only shows that they realize Juan Manuel had a clear win over Pacquiao. Otherwise, they wouldn't show this much interest [in making a fourth fight],” Beristain said in the report.

On Saturday, Pacquiao beat Marquez by majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 116-112) in their controversial third fight in Las Vegas. Marquez claimed he was “robbed” after the fight.

“They have Pacquiao, the goose who lays the golden eggs and produces a lot of money, but this past Saturday he became a plucked chicken," Beristain said.

Marquez’s camp said they are still considering filing a lawsuit against the judges who awared Pacquiao the majority decision.

"We want to do that because there is a precedent in New York, where the court decided to root out corrupt judges for life. They are judges who had their licenses canceled forever," he said.

Earlier, Pacquiao’s boxing trainer Freddie Roach said Pacquiao should fight Marquez for the fourth time next year before facing Floyd Mayweather.
