Pacquiao edges Marquez in controversial fight

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao won another fight against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez but instead of settling the questions over previous bouts, it instead created another controversy.

Pacquiao failed to deliver a knock out and won through an unpopular majority decision by the judges to the jeers of Marquez fans and even Filipino boxing enthusiasts.

The judges gave the following scores: 114-114 for Robert Hoyle, 115-113 for Dave Moretti and 116-112 for Glenn Trowbridge.

"Of course they're unhappy, they're fans of Marquez. But I clearly won the fight," said Pacquiao.

Meanwhile, Marquez said, "This is the second robbery of the two fights we've had. This one was even more clear than the first. I don't know what else in the ring I can do to beat this guy."

According to USA Today, Pacquiao did “outpunch” Marquez with 176 out of 578 punches landing while Marquez connected 138 of 435. But Marquez is said to have landed “cleaner hits.”

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach admitted that it was a really close fight. “I wish Manny had moved more to his right than he did tonight,” he said.

Promoter Bob Arum said he might push for rematch in May 2012. “I’m bound and determined to find a definitive winner once and for all.”
