Two Western conference powers faced tough rivals in yesterday’s NBA action. In the first game, two-time defending champions Los Angeles Lakers fell to the surging Los Angeles Clippers in a game that involved several ejections.
In another game, the San Antonio Spurs dominated the Denver Nuggets, so far continuing their stellar run.
The Spurs have now improved their record to a league best 35-6, extending their lead in the standings over the Lakers by five games.
LA Clippers 99, LA Lakers 92
In a battle of the two teams that call Los Angeles their home, the Clippers edged their more accomplished counterparts Lakers by leaning on Eric Gordon’s 30 points.
All game long, the Clippers played like a veteran team, beating the Lakers, 99-92.
The Clippers were minutes away from victory when a flare-up erupted between Blake Griffin and Lamar Odom when both were fighting for a rebound. A verbal confrontation escalated into a shoving match, and technical fouls were called against the players.
In the end, game officials ejected Odom, Griffin, Baron Davis, and Ron Artest for participating in the end-game melee.
Despite his eventual ejection, Griffin was still his team's top scorer, contributing 18 points and 14 rebounds. Davis on the other hand, tallied 14 points and eight assists to help the Clippers win for the fourth time in five games.
The Lakers' Kobe Bryant finished with 27 points and nine rebounds, while center Andrew Bynum finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
With the win, the Clippers have improved their record to 14-25. It has, however, snapped the Lakers' seven-game winning streak. The Lakers are five games behind the Spurs for the best record in the West, sporting a 30-12 card.

Four-time NBA champions San Antonio Spurs notched another victory by beating the Denver Nuggets, 110-97, at home.

The Spurs relied on the brilliance of point guard Tony Parker, who finished the game with 30 points and seven assists on 11-15 shooting. Aside from him, Argentine guard Manu Ginobili added 18 points to help his team run to its best start in franchise history.
Once again, the Spurs received solid contributions from their bench with Gary Neal and George Hill scoring 14 points each.
Meanwhile, Tim Duncan appeared to have been coasting the entire game, but still produced nine points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
The Nuggets' lead scorer for the game was Al Harrington, with 18 points, Nene had 17, and Arron Afflalo had 14.
The loss cut the Nuggets' three-game winning streak, and also dropped their record to 23-16.
