Rep. Jose Yap, Sr. of the second district of Tarlac passed away early Tuesday due to complications arising from prostate cancer.
News of his demise was relayed by House of Representatives secretary general Marilyn Yap to the media. No other information concerning the congressman's death was disclosed.
The 81-year-old lawmaker was a member of the Lakas-Kampi CMD and a three-term Tarlac governor from 1998 to 2007.
He served as Mayor of Victoria, Tarlac, from 1952 to 1955; Undersecretary for the Department of General Services (now General Service Office) from 1963 to 1964; Deputy Governor for the Land Authority of the Philippines from 1964 to 1965; and Administrator of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) from 1986 to 1987.
He was also vice-chairman of the Dangerous Drugs and National Defense and Security Committees of the 14th Congress.
He is survived by his wife Zenaida Areno Yap, a businesswoman.
Yap's remains lie in state at Sta. Maria Della Strada Parish Church on Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. On Thursday, he will be brought to the Batasang Pambansa for the necrological services.
From the Batasan, his remains will be brought to his hometown in Victoria, Tarlac, where interment is scheduled on Sunday, March 7.
