PIA chief to replace Remonde - Palace

Following Cerge Remonde's untimely demise, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Philippine Information Agency (PIA) director-general Conrado “Dodie” Limcaoco Jr. as acting press secretary on a concurrent capacity.

Limcaoco earned his AB Political Science degree from the Ateneo de Manila University. He worked for the late former President Corazon Aquino as a speechwriter, spokesperson, and adviser for special projects. During the Aquino administration, he became the network manager of the government-owned People's Television Network, Inc. and the chairman and general manager-CEO of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).

In 2007, he served as supervising secretary for government-owned radio and television networks: NBN-4, IBC-13, RPN-9, BBS, BCS and PNA. He was cabinet secretary for presidential engagements from March 2005 to February 2006, and presidential assistant for media and religious affairs from 2002 to 2004.

Palace: Remonde a big loss to the administration

In a statement, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that the President Arroyo is “deeply shocked and saddened” over the passing of Remonde who “worked directly and closely” with her.

“Secretary Remonde is one of this administration's most competent, faithful and loyal stalwarts. His demise is clearly felt,” Ermita said on the Malacañang website.

“It's a very big loss [to the administration]. You know how good Cerge was as a press secretary,” he added.

Remonde, 51, succumbed to cardiac arrest at the Makati Medical Center on Tuesday morning. He was found slumped in the bathroom of his Makati Bel-Air home and was rushed to the hospital but doctors failed to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 11:51 a.m.

Remonde's remains lie in state at the Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. On Thursday, he will be brought to the Palace and will be flown to his hometown in Argao, Cebu on Friday for final interment.
