While Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro earned the disapproval of former Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco after using the latter's composition “Posible” for his presidential campaign jingle, reinstated independent candidate Nicanor “Nicky” Perlas was being approached by local artists and composers offering to write a tune for him
In a forum on Monday with Blogwatch.ph members, Perlas revealed that contemporary folk-rock artist Joey Ayala has allowed him full free use of all his songs and offered to write him a new composition exclusive for his campaign.
“Joey (Ayala) actually offered to do a jingle, a new one just for our campaign. Actually, a number of artists have offered to do it, one of the other things that's starting to happen, I don't know why but the artistic community is starting to react,” Perlas explained to the bloggers.
In a statement released by Kaperlas.com, Joey expressed his confidence in Perlas' movement. “Nick Perlas is the only one which understands the true meaning of nature and true change.”
The statement also disclosed that Ayala's sister and esteemed singer-songwriter of poetic proportions Cynthia Alexander has given Perlas her support, along with Tapati Tarongoy of Bagong Lumad and groups like Filipino-Muslim Youth and Homonhon Metro Manila Residents Association (HMMRA).
After being ruled a nuisance candidate by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Perlas returns to the 2010 presidential race still armed with the advocacy of new politics and a "green" vision for the Philippines.
Perlas, whose platform pushes for environmental movement, poverty eradication and political reform, advanced his uniqueness among the Palace aspirants.
According to him, he envisions the Philippines as a country that is free of corruption, has drastically reduced poverty, maintained peace and order, and has satisfactorily moved to restore the environment and educate its people.
He pointed out that a highlight in his candidacy is his thirty-year edge in agriculture development. He said that as an agriculture graduate and pioneer of organic farming in the country, he has substantial experiences and training that the other candidates lack when it comes to modernizing agriculture and sustainability.
When asked if his platform is just the same as the rest of the hopefuls, Perlas maintained, “I'm unique among the presidentiables, especially in environmental track record, in fact I'm being labeled as a green candidate, although when I say green, by definition, is not just ecology but all the rest: politics, economics, the environment. So my track record for the environment speaks for itself."
