A warning about a July Constituent assemby (Con-ass) has been laid out by the militant Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).
A Bayan representative said that Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's allies may convene a Senate-less Con-ass next month in her last State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Renato Reyes Jr. said about Arroyo's Lower House allies: "[They] may be preparing to convene the con-ass in July so that a justiciable controversy may arise. If they do this, it will surely fuel massive protest actions in time for Arroyo's State of the Nation Address."
This statement happened after the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday junked two separate petitions by lawyer Oliver Lozano and businessman Louis Biraogo that pursued to nullify House Resolution 1109 to convene Con-ass. The SC said that the petitions "lacked legal standing" and were "premature."
"The SC ruling that the Lozano petition was premature may be a minor setback for Arroyo and her allies. This means that Arroyo's allies in the Lower House will not get their wish of having the SC hastily and prematurely deciding on the validity of HR 1109," said Reyes in a philstar article.
