An Inquirer article reported that Judge Jesus Mupas deferred ruling on the motion filed by the former president seeking permission to attend the wake of the late Negros Occidental representative Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.
Court spokesperson Felda Domingo said that until Mrs. Arroyo's lawyers have informed the exact details of Iggy's wake and funeral, the court cannot issue a resolution granting the permission.
Iggy Arroyo died of cardiac arrest last January 26 in London where he was seeking treatment for his liver ailment. Mrs. Arroyo's lawyers filed the motion seeking for permission to attend the wake six days later.
Mupas has also yet to rule on the motion filed by Comelec requesting the transfer of the former president from Veterans Memorial Medical center (VMMC) to a regular jail. The ruling was deferred because the defense requested more time to obtain a copy of Mrs. Arroyo's medical condition and question her doctor in the witness stand.
While VMMC ortophedic surgeon Dr. Antonio Sison testified that the former president needs physical therapy and close supervision, ABS-CBN News reported that the doctor conceded that Mrs. Arroyo can also be treated as an out-patient.
The court has scheduled the hearing for further deliberations next Thursday.
