Negros Occidental congressman Ignacio Arroyo, died in London on Thursday after he was removed from life support, said his brother, former First Gentleman Juan Miguel Arroyo.
"Support systems were pulled...thirty minutes ago. My brother passed away already. I'm so sad," Arroyo told ABS-CBN News.
Iggy Arroyo was put on life support at The London Clinic after going into cardiac arrest on Wednesday, around 11 PM UTC. Arroyo, who had been suffering cirrhosis of the liver, travelled to London last year to undergo treatment.
Some confusion arose yesterday, with outlets reporting that the congressman had already died. This was later clarified by Mike Arroyo, who stated that his brother was clinically dead. The flag at the House of Representatives was flown at half-mast at 12:55 PM yesterday; after the clarification, the flag was flown topmast once more at 2:30 PM.
Iggy Arroyo was accompanied in the hospital by his common-law wife, Grace Ibuna.
“It all happened so fast,” she said, and called for prayers from supporters and friends.
