After serving jail time for possession of illegal drugs in Hong Kong, former Congressman Ronald Singson is now Philippine-bound on a private plane.
GMA News Online reported that Singson’s father Gov. Luis Singson is supposed to meet him at the Hong Kong airport before flying back home. His two-year-old daughter is also said to accompany them.
Singson was jailed in Hong Kong for 18 months. He was arrested at the Chek Lap Kok International Airport on July 11, 2010 after being caught carrying 26.1 grams of cocaine and two tablets of valium. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced on February 24, 2011.
From the Vigan airport, the Singsons will then proceed to Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral to attend a thanksgiving mass.
Singson’s younger brother Rep. Ryan Singson told media, “Siyempre masaya ang pamilya. Gusto sana namin private para sa pamilya pero marami ang nagmamahal. May thanksgiving din We are happy. We wanted it to remain private for the family but there are so many who love him. There’s also a thanksgiving).”
Ryan replaced his brother as representative of the first district of Ilocos Sur after the Commission on Elections organized a special election on May 28, 2011.
Amid reports that Singson supporters were willing to re-elect Ronald, Governor Singson said his son won’t be getting into politics again and will instead focus on the family business.
