Hacktivists target child pornography sites

After hacking sites of government agencies and corporations, famous hacker-activist group Anonymous has now targeted websites featuring child pornography.

The group claimed to have taken down 40 websites and posting names of some 1,500 alleged pedophiles. They further announced that they will soon target all firms hosting, promoting and supporting child pornography.

In a post in Pastebin.com, Anonymous called Freedom Hosting, a firm operating several pornography sites as “#OpDarknet Enemy Number One.”

"Our demands are simple. Remove all child pornography content from your servers. Refuse to provide hosting services to any website dealing with child pornography. This statement is not just aimed at Freedom Hosting, but everyone on the Internet. It does not matter who you are, if we find you to be hosting, promoting, or supporting child pornography, you will become a target," the group said.

"We will continue to not only crash Freedom Hosting's server, but any other server we find to contain, promote, or support child pornography," they added.

One of the websites attacked is Lolita City, a darknet website used by pedophiles to trade pornography. According to the Examiner, “A darknet website is a closed private network of computers used for file sharing. Darknet websites are part of the Invisible Web, sometimes called the Deep Web, containing content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines.”

In another Pastebin post, a so-called Anonymous enthusiast named Arson wrote, “After hours of researching the users dump from Lolita City, we have found documents and identified many of the users. If the FBI, Interpol, or other law enforcement agency should happen to come across this list, please use it to investigate and bring justice to the people listed here.

Reports say the recent attacks is relatively sophisticated compared to Anonymous’ previous campaigns.
