PCIJ’s Alecks Pabico dies

Alecks Pabico, the former multimedia director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), passed away due to liver cancer on Wednesday, 7 October 2009, 4:36 p.m. at the St. Luke’s Medical Center, says Inquirer.net. He was 43 years old.

GMANews.tv quotes PCIJ executive director Malou Mangahas as saying that Pabico was “a pioneer in the art and science of multimedia journalism” in the country. Pabico had helped to set up the website of the PCIJ, which later became a leading online source for in-depth reportage and investigative journalism.

Pabico was also editor-in-chief of the University of the Philippines-Diliman’s campus newspaper, the Philippine Collegian, from 1991 to 1992.
