A suspect in the slay of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila, or PLM) medical student Roxanne Musngi was killed by policemen after he allegedly tried to resist arrest Tuesday night.
The slain suspect, Kenneth Capili, was being brought by policemen to the Ospital ng Maynila (Manila Hospital) for a routine checkup before his detention when he allegedly tried to grab the gun of one of his arresting officers. He died on the spot after being shot by the arresting officers. At least ten bullets were recovered from the shooting scene, DZMM reported.
Capili was identified by witnesses as a gang member in Tondo.
Furthermore, two more suspects were arrested by members of the Manila Police District (MPD). They were Justine Basa, 21, who introduced himself as a student at the Lyceum of the Philippines, and a 16-year-old boy nicknamed Vic.
In an interview with 24 Oras, Basa said that the three of them were going to a house of a friend when Capili spotted Musngi. Basa then explained that Capili asked Vic, who was driving the motorcycle, to stop. Basa and Vic then saw Capili robbing and stabbing Musngi.
Vic claimed that Capili threatened him to kill him if he did not start his motorcycle in order for them to flee from the crime scene. Basa, for his part, claimed that he did not join the two in the motorcycle and that he even tried to chase the two. Both Vic and Basa claimed innocence from the crime, pointing out Capili as the one responsible.
Police recovered Musngi's belongings from Capili.
Basa is currently detained at the Raxabago police station in Tondo while Vic was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
In a phone interview with the Philippine Online Chronicles, a spokesperson for the Raxabago police station said that another suspect, Michael Baylon, who was earlier arrested, will not yet be cleared from the crime pending the final result of their investigation.
Musngi, 20, was reportedly killed and robbed by three men riding a motorcycle at the corner of Juan Luna and General Lukban in Gagalangin, Tondo last Saturday at around 3:30 a.m. Musngi was a freshman at the PLM College of Medicine and a student council member at the PLM College of Science during her senior year in the said college.
