Suspect in student's slay arrested

A suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila, or PLM) medicine student Roxanne Musngi was arrested yesterday by the Manila Police District (MPD). The MPD had formed “Task Force Musngi” to quicken the search and arrest of the two other suspects.

The suspect was identified as Michael Baylon, a resident of Santa Cruz, Manila, and an alleged member of a Tondo-based criminal gang.

According to case investigator Jaime Gonzales, a witness identified Baylon as the one holding Musngi's arms while the latter was being stabbed by an unidentified man. Allegedly, Baylon and two other companions quickly left the crime scene after taking Musngi's backpack.

Meanwhile, Musngi's remains were put to rest earlier today at the Manila North Cemetery.

In a funeral mass held at PLM yesterday, Musngi's elder sister Charms called for justice for her sister's demise. “My calling is to serve people through my profession,” Roxanne was quoted by Charms as saying in her essay submitted to the PLM College of Medicine.

Musngi was a long-time member of PLM-based political organization Bukluran Students Alliance and was elected last year as public relations officer of the PLM College of Science Student Council.
