Two suspected hired gunmen shot to death a teenaged maid and a construction worker in Barangay Central, Quezon City Tuesday night.
According to investigators, the shooting incident happened in front of the Farmacia East Drug along Matapang Street in Brgy. Central at around 9:30 in the evening. Conflicting reports said there was only one gunman.
Mary Ann Del Rosario, 16, and Joel Acaya, 36, were in a tricycle when they were shot by men riding tandem on a motorcycle. Acaya reportedly managed to call for help before he was shot multiple times by the suspect, who then fled.
Tricycle driver Manolito Morillo, 35, was wounded on the leg, while bystander Johnell Cueto was hit in the left foot by a stray bullet. All were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC).
Del Rosario, who was on an errand to buy medicine for her employer, suffered a fatal gunshot wound in the head and was declared dead-on-arrival at the EAMC. Acaya, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body, died more than an hour later.
Investigators believe that the gunman were the same ones responsible for the failed ambush of Supt. Napoleon Cauyan on Wednesday last week. Chief Insp. Benjamin Elenzano, head of the homicide section of the Quezon City Police District, said the suspects, who were onboard a red Honda motorcycle (plate number IT1797) have long been in their “watchlist” for incidents of robbery in the area.
