Five construction workers died after a portion of the land they were digging collapsed on them, Cagayan de Oro police said Tuesday.
The victims were working on an eight-meter excavation site in Taekwood Hills Subdivision, Upper Zone 3, Agusan Village, around 3:30 p.m. when the landslide occurred. Four workers – Philip Goyo, 19; Danny Loay, 18; Arman Cabasan, 22; and Boning Abalo – were buried alive.
Another worker, Eladio Tagle, died while being treated at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.
“We are now looking if there is negligence on the part of Design Setters Company, Inc., the construction firm working on the project,” said Northern Mindanao Police chief Superintendent Danilo Empedrad.
The construction company, on the other hand, has promised to shoulder the burial and medical expenses of the victims.
