Vagni forgives abductors

Eugenio Vagni, the Italian Red Cross worker who was released last July 12 by Abu Sayyaf captors, asked the government to forgive his kidnappers.

Vagni, who was held captive for six months in Sulu, said that his wife and children kept him going. "I meditate, think of the good times and my family. Hope to be free one day," he told philstar.com. He told reporters that his abductors treated him well. "After six months in captivity, I have lost something about myself that I have to get back. I have to find myself before deciding what to do," he said.

Vagni also mentioned that he is willing to return to the Philippines to engage in humanitarian work because he loves the Filipino people. "I can say hope is the last thing to die in every war," he said. He is expected to return to Italy in a few days.
