The Department of Education (Deped) announced the suspension of afternoon classes for pre-school, elementary and high school in all public and private schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday.
The suspension was based on a Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast that Metro Manila will experience moderate to heavy rains in the afternoon, according to Deped’s official Twitter account.
The Philippine Star also reported that local government units of cities and provinces near NCR cancelled classes for pre-school, elementary and high school.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also suspended the number coding scheme in Las Piñas starting 12:00 noon due to bad weather, according to their official Twitter account.
The MMDA earlier announced the lifting of the said scheme in cities except Las Piñas and Makati. It also lifted the number coding scheme along the whole stretch of EDSA.
Pagasa earlier said that the heavy rains are due to typhoon “Kabayan” and a low pressure area near Ilocos Sur that continue to strengthen the southwest monsoon.
