Tropical depression Henry enters Phil territory

Tropical depression Henry has breached the Philippine area of responsibility and is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Henry was spotted 1,120 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center. It is forecasted to move west northwest at 22 kilometers per hour.

Henry is reportedly expected to be 690 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes by Saturday, and 510 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes by Sunday.

Although the tropical depression is set to bring rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas, the weather bureau pointed out that the weather disturbance is still too far from land to raise any storm signals.

“It is far from land and there is little chance of it making landfall. But it will enhance the southwest monsoon,” said forecaster Gener Quitlong.
