Ruffa accepts Kris' apology; says sorry to Noynoy

In the spirit of “peace and friendship," actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez said she forgives The Buzz co-host Kris Aquino for the “hurtful” remarks the latter said on the show's March 7 episode, while also saying sorry to Aquino's brother for being dragged into the controversy.

“To Senator [Benigno] Noynoy Aquino [III], in behalf of my mom and the entire Gutierrez family, we sincerely apologize kung nasali po kayo sa isang babaeng usapin (Sorry that you were dragged into this girl issue). Being the gentleman that you are, you will most probably just brush this off and laugh at our crazy showbiz life. Let us put this episode to rest so you can focus on your campaign and everyone else can peacefully go back to work,” Ruffa said in her statement.

Aquino, Kris' older brother, got wound up in the issue after Ruffa's mother and manager Annabelle Rama appeared on a rival program and told its viewers not to vote for Aquino.

Kaya ako'y nananawagan sa taumbayan na huwag niyo na iboto si Noynoy, kasi hindi pa nananalo si Noynoy, ang yabang-yabang na ni Kris! (I am appealing to the public, please do not vote for Noynoy. Noynoy isn't president yet, but Kris has already become very arrogant!),” Rama said on GMA's Showbiz Central.

Aquino is the Liberal Party standard bearer for the May 10 polls.

Defending Annabelle

In her mother's defense, Ruffa said Annabelle “never attacked the good senator's character” and was just expressing what she felt at the time.

“Just like you and I, my mom has her own perspective and we should respect that. After all, we do live in a democracy.”

Alam mo naman ang mommy ko, para siyang volcano (You know my mommy, she's like a volcano),” she said of Annabelle's infamous temperament.

What Ruffa wants now is for the issue to die down and for her and Aquino to remain friends. "Let us now move forward with dignity and honor. Love, Love, Love and Peace, Peace, Peace!” she said, mimicking the sing-song expression popularized by Kris on The Buzz.

"I hold Tito Boy [Abunda] and Kris in such high regard as professional mentors and personal friends,” she added. "Wala ng Team Ruffa, Team Kris. Team friendship na lang, di ba?”

And to her supporters... and “haters,” she had these to say: “Thank you to my family, friends and fans all across the globe for your unwavering support. To my haters and those that unfairly judge me, I thank you for you make me stronger. I promise to behave myself and continue to try to be a better mother, daughter, sister and lady. After all, no one's perfect!”

It was no “walk-out”

Ruffa also clarified that contrary to rumors, she did not walk out of their show but merely went to the dressing room to compose herself.

"I really wanted to go back on-air but I couldn’t stop crying. So, natanggal na ang pilik-mata ko, nag-smear na ang lining ko and I admit I was emotional (My [fake] lashes wore off, my lining smeared. i admit I was emotional),” she explained.

Ruffa became emotional after Kris teased her for leaving The Buzz for another talk show being cooked up by TV5 which will air in the same timeslot.

"Aminin mo, iba talaga ang saya dito (Admit it, it's much happier here [at The Buzz]),” Kris told Ruffa.

To this, Ruffa answered, "Well, I know you don't have to rub it in Kris. You know naman I'm sad na rin so, you know... 'wag mo nang dagdagan," while obviously trying to hold back tears.

Apparently irked by the remark, Ruffa got up from her seat before the commercial gap and did not return for the rest of the program.

"I know that we love each other and I know that we’ve been friends for a long, long time. Medyo nasaktan lang ako noon kasi doon sa mga parinig niya,” she said.

According to Ruffa, she did not cry just because of the joke Kris made to her on Sunday's episode. She said that her co-host had been constantly making pambabara (interruptions) and condescending statements about her in previous episodes.

She cited one of Kris' statements on the show where she said, “Naku, you know mahal na mahal ako ng mga tiga-Laoag. Seventy percent ng mga tao nakikita ako dito (The Buzz).”

"Parang pinapalabas niya na walang manonood sa akin sa TV5,” Ruffa said.

"I invite you to view replays of past episodes online and you’ll understand exactly where I’m coming from. Off-camera, sometimes Kris acknowledges my presence and other times (like that Sunday, March 7) she would not,” Ruffa added.

Rama said Kris was the reason why she pulled Ruffa out of ABS-CBN and had her sign a non-exclusive contract with TV5. Ruffa is set to headline a showbiz-oriented show with Mo Twister and Cristy Fermin, also a former host of The Buzz.

"Kaya ko pi-null out si Ruffa sa The Buzz, unang-una dahil sa pambabara ni Kris sa kanya na hindi ko ma-take (I pulled Ruffa out of The Buzz because Kris was always joking at her expense, that I could not take)," said Rama.

Kris, however, maintains that she said her joke with “affection.” Nonetheless, she apologized to Ruffa and her family for whatever offense she may have caused them.

Kris also promised her brother that she would gladly to take her two boys (Joshua and James Jr.) abroad where there is TFC (The Filipino Channel) if she would only cause distress to Aquino if he won as president.

Meanwhile, Kris and Ruffa will still meet on the set of their showbiz afternoon talk show for the latter's farewell episode on March 14. Gutierrez said she will remember The Buzz, which she co-hosted with Kris and Boy for three years, “with great fondness.”

Apart from the hosting stint offered by TV5, Ruffa is busy with filming the re-make of the 1980's chick flick Working Girls where she co-stars with Eula Valdez, Eugene Domingo, and Christine Reyes.

Kris, on the other hand, is busy helping woo voters for her presidentiable brother at a Zamboanga sortie.
