After a five-year hiatus from the local industry scene, 'Superstar" Nora Aunor has confirmed that she is coming home.
Aunor, one of the biggest names in Philippine showbiz, said she has decided to return to the country after staying in Los Angeles, California, abs-cbnnews.com reported. The actress left for the US in 2005 to pursue her singing career.
Talks were rife about the actress' comeback last year, but it is only now that Aunor herself actually confirmed the news.
“Ipokrita ako sasabihin ko na hindi ko nami-miss ang mga anak ko. At ang trabaho ko sa Pilipinas at ipinangako ko sa sarili ko na babalik ako ngayong 2010 (I would be a hypocrite if I say I don't miss my children and my career in the Philippines. I promised myself that I will return this 2010),” Aunor said in an earlier interview.
Aunor also admitted that life in the US had been tough and that she had been looking forward to coming home to her family.
"There's nothing like home, iba pa rin ang Pilipinas (There's nowhere like the Philippines)," she mused.
To prepare for her “much-awaited” comeback, the 56-year-old actress reportedly underwent cosmetic enhancement surgery in Tokyo, Japan. The film icon was finally allowed to travel outside of the United States after she was cleared of her drug case in 2007.
Aunor, Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in real life, was arrested in 2005 at the Los Angeles International Airport for alleged possession of the illegal drug metamphetamine hydrochloride (locally known as shabu) and drug paraphernalia.
She was placed under a six-month rehabilitation program and tested negative for drugs for the duration of her stay.
Showbiz columnist Aster Amoyo is said to manage the actress's "second shot" at her showbiz career.
“Naiiyak ako. Hindi ko alam na totoo pala ito. Mahal ko 'yan kahit matigas ang ulo, mahal ko yan,” she said of her soon-to-be ward.
Aunor's last TV appearance was in the ABS-CBN soap opera Bituin in 2002, where she played mom to actresses Desiree del Valle and Carol Banawa.
