Director Brillante Mendoza is going to Switzerland to sit at the panel of judges for the 62nd Film Festival Locarno.
Mendoza, who recently won best director at the Cannes International Film Festival for Kinatay, made his debut in Locarno in 2005 when film Masahis won the Golden Leopard, or top prize. Other directors who were discovered at Locarno since 1946 include Stanley Kubrick, Spike Lee and Michelangelo Antonioni.
According to a report from Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Maria Therese P. Lazaro, the choice for Mendoza as a judge for the “Filmmakers of the Present Competition” category is a “recognition of the Filipino's artistry, creativity and technical mastery.”
The festival will take place at Locarno, Switzerland's summer capital, from August 5 to 15. More than 200,000 spectators are expected to attend.
